For Rose
Rose, although your family may not have owned the dog called 'Dinkie', you and I may have a'six degrees of separation' connection. I seem to remember you mentioning the Cummins parents, Joe and Margaret, that live in A Block, close to you. Joe Cummins was my godfather! Do we share something, here?

Hi Roy,
Indeed we do Mag and Joe were my godparents, when they left the Camp in 66 they moved to Finglas, Joe worked with the ISPCC. Had some great holidays with them. They are both gone now just six weeks between them Joe going first may they rest in peace.
Was your Mam dark haired and tallish, can remember a Mrs Clarke coming to visit Mam and Mag, wondering was it your Mam.
Regards,
Rose.

Hi Caroline It’s quite simple really. The more you post on the forum the higher in the ranking you go. We even had our first Sergeant Major on the forum yesterday after a few years. Congratulations Rose, the Pints are on you !!! Matt

Hi All,
Anyone remember the swimming galas held at the Baths late 1960's, early 70's?? It was a great place during the summer holidays, remember you would go down for about ten o'clock, line up against the wall outside hoping everyone would get in, then get out of the pool at about three in the afternoon resembling a prune, but spotless!!! I will have to ask about the names of the guys who were instructing at the time but I remember with great fondness Sgt Gillman. He was a lovely man and had a great way with the kids competing at the time. Of course his lovely daughter Helen who was the fastest swimmer ever won just about everything in the competitions. (His grand daughter Amy is my daughter Eimear's best friend - how cool is that?) My Dad was involved too as were many of the Dads, but I remember the first time I was allowed to go to the Disco when there was a visiting team probably from Dublin down to compete. I remember Gerard Tobin , Dermot McCarthy, Ciaran McCarthy, Helen Gillman, Nicky Tobin, anyone out there take part? Fill in any more names?
Caroline

Hi All, Remember the Baths alright. Every kid in the Curragh must have been able to swim before going to school. I remember Pete Gillman, along with Gerry Sparrow (David's dad) and Mick McLoughlin (who gave me My Boy Charlie out at the Curragh a couple of years ago that turned my day around) and is still always laughing at life and the good of it. I remember getting in only for 45 minutes to an hour, and certainly boys and girls had separate sessions in the 60s. Maybe you were just fantasising back then Caroline! I swam in a few galas back then, but the short legs didn't really help!
Ger Tobin was my neighbour and best friend in O'Higgins Tce, until he left for nurse training in the UK. Last I heard he was back in Dublin lecturing in Nursing. His dad Wally was a tailor and a barber (I think) in Plunkett, and was a lovely man.
Interestingly, I sat beside Dermot McCarthy for most of secondary school, but again lost touch after he went in to the Air Corp. He was a great goalkeeper in his school days, wonder did he keep it up? He also went to the Curragh Boys school in his early years before they moved to Newbridge, and his dad would often pile six or seven of us into his car on Friday's lunchtime and take us to Pearse. Well appreciated on wet Friday's!
Nicky Tobin, and his brother Johnny were in my class in the Curragh. I met one of them in Athlone a few years ago, him be stationed there. I always remember their dad as leader of the Pipe Band on the Curragh. I loved when they played and marched (which wasn't very often to my mind).
I think Ger Tobin's brother-in-law (whose name I can't remember, married to Pauline) was an instructor at the pool at a later stage. Sham

Hi all, Remembering the Jewellers at the Market Square in the Curragh, this establishment was run by a Mr Gross or Grossa believed to have been of Jewish decent, when young I would often gaze into the window through the grill to see all the shimmering gold and silver items displayed therein. Mr Grossa would come out of his shop and say "If you vant a vatch, buy a vatch and dont be looking at the vatches in the vindow. The shop was later taken over by Mr Feely, ex Comdt Mil College and run as a sweet and grocery shop, it's later occupants were Darlings who sold Car Parts, and finally it became a gardening centre. Regards Joey

Hi Tommy, Yes I remember the old gym burning down and you're right there was a function the night before and the bar would have been. well stocked so you would have expected a big explosion from the alcohol stacked in the bar . But that didn't happen because as you reminised Tommy so many[unnamed well meaning people] had RESCUED the volitale stock!! mainly to avoid a disaster and they did that and were forced to have a singing session to calm the situation right down. in the nearest mess and the party lasted for 3 days!!! And Everyone was HAPPY!!
