Hi Magi. Dances in 1961/1964 were also held in the gymasium and if memory serves me right there was a sports track behind it. I can recall the names of two sisters who use to go to the dances Voilet Hendie and darkie Hendie Voilet been the blond. I was wondering if the swimming is still in the camp. I have some great memories of the Curragh. I did a guard of honour for Eamon De Valera on St Patricks on the steps in front of the church. He placed shamrock behind my cap badge with trembling hands as he was old then. I think it was 1962? Goodbye and thanks Tony Moore.

;D To all you Curragh Trivia Lovers. Rose Cottage was lockated on the Sewage Farm on the Brownstown side . Go to Brownstown Cross from the Camp turn left as if going to Knoxes Corner it was the first House on the left . Occupants that i remember were Mr and Mrs Danny Dempsey ,they lived beside on O Higgins Road for years . Previous occupants when i was a lad were The McCloughlan family . There father was a foreman in the Board of Works for many a year. Cheers for now Sean Tracey.

Sean,
Have to admit you threw us a curve ball there. As kids, we always commented on the how awful the smell was around there. Particularly for the family that lived there. I guess the smell of roses was smothered by the less than pleasant odour. I was going to curse but Matt is the MP for the forum.
Keep them coming.

Well done for that Sean, Here was I shifting through the history pages lookng for an event and I pass by there everyday. Brendan Hare Park 2 is just past the Grenade Range at the golf course on the right as you face snny hill cottages. There is a third at Fox Covert in Little Curragh.
Why? Maybe they were bred for coursing. " The Curragh was at one time famous for its abundant hares, which were reputed to be of the stoutest and best running breed to be found in the three kingdoms" J.G Millais "Mammals of Great Britain and Ireland"

Hi Kentgal. I am a bit young to remember the Curragh Dances in 50s and 60s however iwell remember both of my sisters going to the above mentioned. I well remember the Beer Festivals held in the Gym in the early Seventees happy days. I am sure we all remember the Rev Freddy Knowles he tried to do something for the youth of the Curragh as well but never got the support from the powers that be at that time.sad really he was a very genuine man , this i can say from experience as i went to school with one of his sons and often went to his home , he often spoke of his ties with the Curragh Camp and cared as much for all us of at that time Cheers for now Sean Tracey.
