Hi All I am delighted to report that the final installment of The Curragh Camp Married Quarters has been finished by Tommy Sweeney. So if you ever lived in Clarke Barracks Married Quarters this is the one you have been looking for. Again thanks to Tommy for his marvelous work and all credit to him as I know that he is very busy at the moment with studies. I have also heard the Curragh Military Museum will be holding a copy of all the Married Quarters for visitors to see, this will show that there was at one time a large community housed on the camp. Thanks Tommy for spotting this vital piece of Curragh History and saving it for generations to come. Matt Clarke Barracks Married Quarters: www.curragh.info/married_quarters/clarke_mq.htm

Re:CURRAGH CAMP MARRIED QUARTERS Hi TommyS well done once again just browseing through the Clarke occupants and it brought back some very fond memories of friends from the past, you can relax now for 5 minutes grab a cuppa scald and a chester cake bun, and then back to your studies, how are things in civvy street, no sign of them filling any of the BQMS vacancies and looks like they wont be filling them?? nearly time for a Shadowers meeting as Joey seems anxious to spend a penny or two, bye for now keep well. Hi Joey.
Glad my soldiers got a good home, only saying that as I am positive you will not return them. Now did you find Boo Boo's brother Sooty, I remember when mammy said the clan were visiting in the 60s and I feared for poor Sooty thinking she meant the klan, so the only place safe for sooty where he would blend in was up the chimney, My first lesson in field craft.

Hi All,
Just browsing through Clarke MQRS home to our Forum Veteran for many years, and noticed that in 1960 the occupancy of some of the quarters only lasted three months or so, in one case, two months, a lot of shifting going on then, know for a fact that when a house became vacant in any part of the Camp then, there was usally a scuttle to put in for it and noses would be out of joint when given out, or so the conversation would be going in the Garrison, Maginns, the butchers etc., when I would be having a little ear wig while carrying out my duty as runner in our house and for a lot of the neighbours in McDonagh, it always came up in conversation among the Mammies.

Some answers for MaryFarrell6's queries dated April17 2010 1 There are two semi-detached houses between Pearse and McDonagh Officers' Messes (backing onto the 'swinging boats'), the one on the right is Qms House Pearse, known as Pearse Villa. I was born in that house. The other semi is McDonagh Villa. 2 Pearse / Keane House is across the road from Pearse NCO's Mess. It was traditionally the Command OC's house until Col. Jim Quinn who chose Clarke House as it is smaller. 3 Wingfield House was the timber two storey house on rhe right as you go up the hill to K-Lines. 4 Clonree House is the first house on the left , opposite Lumville House as you go the Green Road towards Newbridge. 5 There are still two houses in K-Lines ,the first on the right -Slighe Dala- and the one behind(south of) that. Both are still occupied as per Tommy Sweeney's information. Billy Hyland.

Hi Billy Hyland, First and foremost welcome to the site, I look forward to reading your contributions. The first of which has answered my queries from last April, so a big thank you for that. Its lovely to finally be able to put names to the correct houses the final piece of the jigsaw so to speak. I thought Wingfield House in K-lines was beautiful, as a youngster I remember sittting in the tennis court gazing across at it and I used to dream of one day living there or in a house live it. It also goes to show that for anyone who has put a query forward, that can't be answered at that particular time not to give up hope.Because with so many new members joining up daily, someone will eventually come along with the answers and their patience will be rewarded. Thanks again Billy. MaryF
