I cant find Glen House in Plunkett on the list where my parents lived from about 1965-67 before they moved to Post Office Hill.
Obvously, the dwellings rented to businesses are ecluded from this listbut are there other married quarters missing?

Mark,
I went back through the plunkett married quarters book couldn't find any record of glen house in plunkett barracks, were exactly was it situated, was it demolished? I haven't heard of it before now. With regard to married quarters missing the whole of Clarke barracks is missing unfortunately not sure about any other ones missing. I do not have any recorded of leased houses (traders) unfortunately. some of the site users might be able to shed some light on glen house for you. its location and if its demolished? or still down there somewhere. its a mystery to me.

It was at the very end of O'Higgins Road, across from the prison. We moved there in June 1965 and Berry's lived there before us. Another poster mentioned it previously. :-
Posted by John Dwyer on Dec 24, 2005, 12:37am As a kid I lived in Newbridge Married Qrts. (absolutely no memory of it), then Clarke Bks (hazy recollection of riding a tricycle there) before moving to Ceannt and leaving in 1967 before folks moved to Glen House beside Sandes Soldiers Home. Even allowing for the rose tinted specs - the memories all seem positive. Congratulations to Matt on an excellent web site and I hope that all the browsers stop looking and start writing. Happy Christmas and New Year to one and all.

Re:Curragh Camp Married Quarters Hi all Mark the answer to the query re the location of Staff House is, the Big 2 storey Grey house on the magazine road, the house at the rear of Sandes picture house was called Glen House, i hope that this helps your query, I would suggest the school roll books for names and addresses of where people lived that we cannot trace through Toms brilliant research into married quarters, bye for now Johnny

Hi Johnny
Yes my father was Maxi McLoughlin - DBO yard and Command Quartermaster and an all-army champion athlete. My brother was in Depot Sigs.
It would be nice if someone had the ability to prepare a map with all of the houses on the Curragh.
As a matter of interest does anyone know how the businesses in the Curragh were allowed i.e. Do they have leases for a set period or ownership? There are also many house surrounding the Curragh which were and may still be on leases from the Dept of Defence and are usually identifiable by red brick.

Hi Mark,
Got you now, I worked with your dad for a good few years in command Headquarters did not make the connection earlier it would have been 1981 on-words, himself and Jim Murray ex Artillery man. got on great there, some good memories I can still smell the cigar smoke, He was very involved with the curragh beagles at that time. most of the businesses in the curragh are on leases I remember reading through them when I worked in CHQ copies were pinned inside each file belonging to the traders I am sure That hasn't changed. You could contact Lands Branch department of defence who could give you more information. glen house must have been demolished if thats the case cant understand why there is no record of it in the plunkett married quarters book.

Re:Curragh Camp Married Quarters Hi Mark In answer to your query re the shops etc in the Curragh, yes indeed they had to lease from the department for Defence, to operate their buissness in the Camp, I have in my files a copy of one such written agreement and will bring same to the next Shadowers meeting, as to your query re the houses again i have a map with all the quarters shops cinemas etc but not numbered or named, the most prominent red bricked buildings /houses on the Curragh edge are to be found around Sunny hill/Ballysax area and were bought out a couple of years ago after running derilect for a couple of years and have been renovated and gladly to report they are being lived in to this day, bye for now Johnny

Hi TommyS Congratulations on a job well and truly done, that was indeed an enormous endeavour you took on and the speed in which you finished the entire project is a testament to your true{Pearse]grit and determination. Seriously though your work will be still helping people trying to trace their family roots for generations to come and that in itself is some legacy to be proud of. It must be very satisfying for you to have finally finished it. I know how disappointed you are about Clarke but if you hadn't stepped in when you did all of the rest would also have been lost as well. Who knows it might surface some day!!!!! The only problem is what do you do with your time now? I bet you feel at a loose end now your work is done, so whats the next project to be??? Bye For Now MaryF

Re: Curragh Camp Married Quarters Hi Maryf welcome back to the site, i think TommyS will have time to raise more chickens now with his spare time, and i think he needs a well deserved rest after all his hard work, and well done by him and as you have said it will be something for Families in the future to use when researching their family history, we might be able to put most names to Clarke from xresidents, but numbers of houses to names may not happen for some of them, so any xresidents of Clarke married quarters or Terrace can you help out in this project, with thanks Johnny

Hi TommyS, I must apologise but on looking up the married quarters again I actually found the houses we lived in, well I lived in 2 of them. From 54-59 we lived in 17C McDermott, and from 59 - 69 we lived in 26D McDermott, I don't know what I was thinking of when I said no 2 it must be that I couldn't count past 2, ;D then we moved to Connolly. I must be awake tonight, please accept my apologies. Take care MaryC

Hi TommyS, Back fine now obviously just playing up while on holiday, but no problems now that I'm back at work, but going to speak to the doc about it tomorrow, and I really don't want to start having problems with siatica, I couldn't cope with all that time off work, so many nurses off for so many months with it, that would drive me insane. But still go to do things when I was home that's the main thing.
Take care MaryC
