"Les spiritesses" are those who are in contact with the departed spirits. They were credited with being able to communicate with the dead and were revered/feared in the tribe. As they were an integral part of the Congo tribal culture I doubt if members of ONUC would have had much contact with them.

Looking through all the photo's that you all posted and really enjoy seeing these real live hero's. I'm trying to find anyone who would of served with my late uncle William Hughes (Billy) service number 808556. A coy 35th Inf Batt. I found 1 photo, But its a newspaper clipping. I'm trying to put together an honour plaque showing his citations that we just got, But cant find a decent photo to do him justice. He was from Longford but served out of Athlone 6th Inf Batt. Thanks Mark.

My Daddy also served with the 37Bn. Remember Jimmy Byrne from his days in the Curragh, did a stint as Brigade Driver when I was there.

Corporal Michael Nolan was my mother's brother. He died in the Congo with Trooper Pat Mullins in 1961. Is there anyone who served with Michael, anyone who knew him? My 15 year old son is writing a short story for his Junior Cert paper about the conflict in the Congo and his great uncle who died. He would love to get some insight into the man who lost his life for the cause of peace. I know its a long shot but if anyone can help, it would be welcome.
