Bernadine (and Andy), The Art McGuiness I know was a Commandant stationed in The Curragh, lived in Newbridge from the Sixties 'til the Eighties and is alive and well and living in Dublin, aged in his mid nineties. He has family living locally here in County Kildare and has written a book, I think about his Army experiences. I hope this helps, Billy Hyland

Hi Matt, My father Noel Foran served in the Congo. He was based in the Mullingar Barracks in Co.Westmeath. Apparently there is a photo floating around out there of him walking up into the back of one of the aircraft at Baldonnell. It was taken by one of the newspapers who covered that day the troops left Dublin.I cannot find this picture, and I have searched many sites. Have you or anyone come across anything in relation to my father or his comrades? As I was not even born at the time, I do not know where to start looking. Any help would be much appreciated, Kind Regards, Noeleen Foran Hi there, My Grandad served in the Congo with the Irish army his name was Edward Jameson. He was very quiet about it as it really effected him. But I would love to know when, where and with who was he with. Both of my grand parents has passed away so i can't ask them. Would you have a list of soldiers that served? Kind regards Christina

I am sure you probably have tried this link? Google "OLD IRISH ARMY CONGO PHOTOS", you will see a lot of photos, and you might be lucky and find what you are looking for. Best of luck! Ex Tpr Kelly, Ex 1st Armd Sqdn.

Hi everyone,
A photo attached of my uncle Denis Casey from Longford. I believe it was taken when he was in Congo but unfortunately I don't know any details of which unit he was in.

Hello Matt. Great photos i felt sure i would recognize someone but no afraid not. I'm in contact with someone that served with the 33rd Batt ',will ask him to look in and see if he can recognize anyone. Well your collection of photos is something to be proud of. Lets hope you unearth some more images of the past in 2011. Regards Anthony. Hi! I’m trying to learn more about my dad. I believe my dad, George Augustin Prizeman was part of the 33rd Battalion. He died when I was 14, and didn’t like to talk about his experiences much. But I know he was a Marksman, likely fought in the Seige of Jadotville. My mum mentioned something about the Pearse Battalion. Born June 5th 1944 he went aged 17, so likely 1960. If anyone has absolutely any info I would leave to hear it

Hi Noeleen, I was with C Company 33rd Battalion and a Corporal Foran served with us. This was in 1960/61. I cannot remember his christian name, but I think he was in the 1st Armoured Squadron in Plunkett Bks., so maybe not the person that you were looking for. However, there is a Group Photo of our Platoon that Matt has so kindly just put up. If you click on the first link that Matt has put up today and scroll down to the first Group Photo, Cpl Foran is the first on the left on the second row down from the back. I hope that makes sense to you. regards, Derek Rochford Hi, I believe my dad was in the 33rd Battalion, and trying to put together any info I can find. His name was George Augustin Prizeman , he was a marksman and worked on saving a diplomat. Do you know anything about him?

I am looking for any information I can find on my dad, George Augustin Prizeman. He passed away when I was 14, and refused to talk about his experiences in Congo. I have small amounts of information from my mum, and hoping to discover more. I loved my dad dearly, and miss him so much 12 years after losing him.
I believe he was part of the 33rd Battalion but could be mistaken. Born June 5th 1944 he was 17 when he left for Congo. My mum said he was a marksman, saved a diplomat and was with two others of his battalion when they were shot dead. This deeply hurt him. He was captured, but escaped.
I can’t see his name on any records, but one of the photos from the 33rd Bat a man looks very similar to him.
I would love to hear anything about anyone’s experiences
