The following clip is from the Militrary Archives and shows the Cavalry Corps in training with their various modes of transport. Nice piece of history, does anybody recognise any of the personnel in the clip ?
I think the instructor in the opening shot is the late Cavalry Corps Sergeant Major Mick Galvin who passed away last year, I may be wrong.

This looks like newsreel from the Irish equivalent to the UKs Pathe News.Which would be on before the main feature in Irelands cinemas during the late 50s and early 60s.Can anyone put a year on it?

Hi Billy I can make out three of the boys in the opening clip, you are right about the late Mick Galvin, he is the instructor, also in the opening clip in that particular class are Mick Houlihan, and Chubby Geary, all very young men in those days, I would say that the film was made in the late 50s Hope you are keeping well my young friend. Regards Joey K

Joey A footnote about the late Mick Galvin. He joined the Army as a tailor (probably learned in 'school'), at a later stage it was decided by 'the powers that be' to assess/re-evaluate all personnel with a view to promotion and/or redeployment. Mick came through with flying colours obviously and rose to the rank of Sargeant Major. As he would said himself "Up the Banner". Billy Hyland

The late Tommy Power is also in that clip. He is featured as the driver of the Churchill in a close-up. Tommy ended his career as RSM Cavalry Corps. Unfortuately he is deceased some years.
