Hello everyone,
I have already posted on the forum once before, looking for information on my late Uncle Patrick Mcinerney, who was in the Irish army and died at Curragh Hospital in July 1944. I had numerous replies to this post and I thank you all.I am awaiting information from the Management Personnel Dept on his service.
I am researching my family in Ireland and it appears that my Grandfather who was Patrick's father was a soldier in 1902 when he married in Cavan, I have no other details about him, only by research have I found that he possibly came out of the army and re-enlisted around 1914, I know he was a soldier in 1916 and 1919 and was at Clonmany in 1916 and Enniskillen in 1919, I paid a military researcher who came up with zero information. It is quite frustrating not being able to trace him, I also found out that my Grandmother died in Dublin in 1924, and the children including my late father were all put into Industrial Schools in 1924. On her death cert it states she was married to Edward McInerney and lived in Lower Gardiner Street Dublin, and Edward wa shown as being a soldier. I wondered what happened to him after Enniskillen,my late father dis not speak about his childhood, but did say that his father was a soldier, and on my father's marriage cert Edward McInerny is shown as deceased Army Warrant Officer this was in 1940.
I no very little about Ireland at that time, I have tried to understand the politics but get very confused the more I read, so apologies for my ignorance.
Would I be right in assuming that my Grandfather would probably have been in the British Army up to 1922 and then possibly have joined or transferred to the Irish Army. If so would his records be with the archives in Dublin?
As a matter of interest my late father came to England and joined the Dorchester Regiment in 1934, he was seriously injured on D Day and was pensioned out of the army in 1946. Also my husband was in the British Army for 5 years but unfortunately he also had to come out of the army having sustained a very bad injury whilst playing squash for the army.
Would welcome any advise regarding my Grandfather.
Many thanks,
Patricia.
