hello we started in the front block in Connolly we had a joint toilet at the end of the block and a bucket for during the night we thought this was normal, we moved to front block in Clarke the same toilet arrangements. We had great neighbors the houlihans, the Brennan's, the Tobin's (wally) Mrs Reilly the first person to have a coloured TV on our block. Murty Purcell R.I.P. We then moved to O Higgins road where we had indoor toilets and a bathroom. We moved for the last time to 26 0 Higgins Terrace. The Curragh in my opinion was a great placed then there was great rivalry between the Barrack children in Football, hurling who could build the biggest bonfire at Halloween etc. I am a 52 year old man now and to this day if i am asked where i am from i always say originally the Curragh camp

Hi, I lived in no7 Pearse Tce as a baby until 1974. then we moved to O'Higgins Road. I was very young when we left the Curragh, about 5 or 6. I do remember Roches lived next to us and I think Furlongs. I remember swinging on the barriers etc. I also have a vague memory of a girl named Ursula who used to walk me to school.

There was a Ursula Delaney of 8 O Higgins Tce from around that time, it maybe her. Matt

Thank you both for the replies. I'm really not sure of Ursula's surname (I'll quiz my Dad later). I was so young, but I've always remembered her. another memory I have is of Willie Roche throwing a rock at my brother John. Hit him right in the middle of his forehead. He still has a scar. lol

Hi Bryan, Welcome to the site. My name is John J Curran, I lived in 4F block Ceannt and 15a block McDonagh. I went to school with your brother Donal. We were also in the scouts together. I remember your sister Deirdre well. I admired her from afar. I look forward to your posts. Regards JJ

Re:WHERE DID YOU LIVE Hi Bryan a very big welcome to the forum, I remember your btother donal and your sister meave, both were in the swimming club under the coaching of Tommy Cullen And Pete Madden, Your late Father Danny was BSM in the Bloods (3Bn) RIP. and he was renowned for his skills as a gaelic football coach and if memory serves me right i think that he trained Monasterevan to a county title in the 60s. his motto was if you are involved in any type of sport in the battallion then you will be afforded the time off for training, i was not in the battallion in time of your late Dad but to hear all of the NCOS AND Men talk of him it was with respect and admiration of Him.that His name was gold,as you will read in the posts as you catch up the Curragh has changed so little but most of the shos and quarters are gone but it is still a place of splendour. bye for now keep well Johnny

Hi Bryan, JJ here again. If you log on to the school photos on this site, you will see a photo of the Corpus Christi parade which shows your brother Donal in a very pius pose. Enjoy.

Bryan If you look up the sports section, soccer club you'll find photos of at least one of your brothers. I had a lovely text message from Anne on behalf of all your family over Christmas wishing me well with my health. I'm still in the throes of treatment but all seems to be going well. We may meet up in Dunmore East during 'the season'. Welcome on board! Billy Hyland
