Hi All,
I have just been reading the posts about the Girls School and I have spent the last week trying to remember all the girls in my class when we left in 1972, I still have faces in my head and cant put names to them and would love someone to fill in the gaps for me, with apologies to those I have left out here goes:- Caroline Mulrooney, Carmel Jordan, Margaret Ahern, Ursula Brennan, Ursula Dwyer, Margaret Brennan, Bernadette Brennan, Bernadette Smullen, Anne Sweeney, Annette Behan, Philomena Gillespie, Geraldine Maguire, Bernadette O'Reilly, Margaret Foran, Catherine Farrell. When we moved to the Curragh I was in 4th class and had Mrs Collins, then Mrs Kempton for 5th and 6th.

Hello McGrath, Long time no see.
You used babysit us (the Moores) regularly. We loved when you did, because you entertained us for hours with your hilarious stories of two kids (loosely based on the twins) and their antics. You were really brilliant, and although I can't remember the details, I do remember all of us with tears of laughter begging for one more story. Thanks a million for that!
Do you recall when Dylan went to stay with Betty and Jas for a week (were you there too?). Jas got on really well with him, and until his (Jas) death, he had a small portrait photo of him on his dressing table.
I meet Don occasionally when in the Curragh, but not the others. I have a lovely photo of Gabrielle and I on our Confirmation Day. I was in 4th class, while Gabrielle was in 5th or 6th. Those were the days when confo was on a three year cycle.
Mai and Billy were great friends with Jas and Betty, and the friendship lasted all their lives.
Anyway, hope you're still making up tall tales!
Sham (Seamus)

Hi Tereasa,
Just read your post right now from Oct 12 not like me to miss a post. Margaret Hipwell sat beside, behind and in front of me for the three years we were with Peggy Lawlor, used to move the whole class about a bit, especially if she thought anyone was enjoying the company of their desk mate. Margaret Hipwell always sat in my region, the six desks over at the wall, where she could keep an eye, to my memory we certainly were'nt troublesome, might have been inclined to talk and fidget, but that was about it. Margaret Hipwell RIP was herself I think her whole life through, she did'nt change in personality as she matured, when in School she was always about two minutes late every morning, as the elsest sister think she may have been escorting younger sisters to their classes, she would arrive as we stood for prayers and so got off the hook, (two minutes is nothing, but nearly a hanging offence then). Margaret always had nice neat hand writing, can still see her writing her name with the old nib pens we dipped into the inkwell, she always wore her long very fair hair in a ponytail, blushed everytime the teacher called her name and had great empathy with you if you were the one in trouble. Tereasa Whyte was in our class herself and Mag were good mates both coming from the same neck of the Camp. Mag was always in a hurry, and always wore a lot of blue and white as a child. I met Mag about a week before she passed away, we had a good chat as we were both in the PA's Mess and not running around the Dunnes where we would usually bump into one another, Teresa Coyle who would have lived just over the green in Ceannt from Hipwells was home on holidays and we had a good chin wag, can remember thinking to myself how she had not aged, still had her long fair hair and wearing her pink, she liked bright colours. the shock the following week when we heard she had passed away. The only photographs I have of school are ones of myself and my sister, they did'nt take class photographs then, what a pity.
Cheers,
Rose.

Hello Rose,
Remember well going to collect the rushes to make the St. Brigid's cross, I used to love making them and made heaps that my poor Mum had to put all over the house.

Have spent the last half hour reading through all the posts about the girls school. It brought back soooo many memories, I attended from '78 to '87 repeated 6th class as we moved to Wicklow that year. Not much changed for a few decades by the sound of things, Boo Boo on fridays we had to say it in Irish about being generous to the missions, but you still got to take her home and dress her up! I remember Mrs. Kempton putting on school plays one of which I proudly stared as one of the swindlers in the Emperor's New Clothes, I can even remember the song. Happy days for sure, would love to get a list of all the girls in my class, so if there is any of ye out there who started in '78 I'd love to hear from ye, Regards, Aisling x

Hi All,
Anyone remember when the inspector would call to the school, can't remember that he ever bothered with us, just spoke with the teacher, can remember a balding man with a sportscoat with leather patches on the elbows, also the Gardai would call, smile at all of us girls and ask if we were being good, probably looked at the roll book checking for attendance, not a word about stranger danger, their role within the school, the onus on our parents to make sure we attended school etc., compared to now, my youngest son HATED school, the struggle every morning for the first three to four years, until he was old enough to realise there was no way out, would chant at me every morning as I tried to be cheery and make it a positive "I'm only going to keep you out of jail" such penance for his dear old mother, he was aware then that it was obligatory.
Just wondering what did the Gardai have to say when they went to the boys school.
Rose.

Yes both Jimmy and Eva have gone to their maker may they rest in peace.
Jimmy lived in Newbridge prior to his death I remember him as a lad, knocked around with him at times, he had curly long hair and was like the rest of us lads full of dreams. Eva was married to Thomas Flood she was also a child of the sixties. Thomas should jog some memories of the Fruit farm.
I worked under their dad Andy who was Ord Rm Sgt in Depot Sigs, he was a nice person tall to my memory and his wife was a small woman, that is how I remember them . they lived in the top block in Ceannt behind the old School of Signals and there is a record of them in Ceannt Qtrs as published by Matt and compiled by our diligent researcher Tom Sweeney who gave us the legacy of the inhabitants of the Qtrs of the Curragh Camp, for which I for one am grateful.
Andy
