Hi Johnny,
Rose here and once again thanks for all the good wishes, tell me now do you think the Lillies will be able for Meath on Sunday? Will pre-match jitters get the better of them?
The one thing i have to admire about the Kilkenny hurling team and supporters now and of the past is they go out on the pitch and as far as they are concerned they can't be beaten and the match is never lost until the final whistle is blown. Was talking to a KK man about two years ago just before the All Ireland Final, asked was he going up to the match said he could'nt because of work committments, but that he had taken Monday and Tuesday off to go down for the celebration and to see the Mick McCarthy cup brought home, now thats what I call confidence. Now I'm not one of their supporters, heaven forbid, my mother would be back to haunt me, her being Tipp and all. Enjoy the game much more than the football, her influence. Would love to see the Lillies do it on Sunday, but they need to get the old heads around the Meath team do you think?
Cheers,
Rose.

Re:Band Hall Hi Rose well what sporting gentlemen are our Lillies always giveing theoppisition a head start and then wakeing up to say to themselves enough of that lets go and win this game, with good team work individual brilliance in skill and to overcome the shock of loosing your best player after only a few minutes, yes Rose i thinkif they can keep their heads and attitude is correct on the day andwhat i like more about this team is their discipline when the stick is being dished out, and to quote Martin Luther King!! Ihave a dream!! so the dream goes on! about the good wishes nobody likes to hear about anyone being Ill or unwell and as us Curragh folk were reared we might fight like cats and dogs but when some thing happens thats when friends and good neighbours come to the fore, and if in need or trouble never be afraid to ask for or seek help from others as it is always good to talk,we are only a phone call away, another name for the membership of the band, Mick Hanratty, PJ Lydon, PS Rose Have family on the wifes side living in Tipp, but the Cats are the cream- as i said the manager does things his way the team way no superstars with big heads as individualism does not come into his line of thinking, that is why they are heading for 5 in a row, UP the Cats, come on the LILLIES UP the Curragh up PEARSE BYE FOR NOW Johnny

hI jOHNNY,
GREAT RESULT TO-DAY, WAS WORRIED THEY MIGHT THROW IN THE TOWEL, BUT FAIR PLAY THEY CAME BACK OUT AND SHOWED THEM HOW ITS DONE. WORK WITH A LADY FROM MEATH WHOSE BROTHER IS ON THE TEAM, SHE IS ON A/L AT THE MOMENT, BUT WHEN SHE RETURNS ON TUESDAY, THE FLAGS WILL BE OUT, WHO KNOWS MIGHT EVEN PAINT THE ESB POLE WHITE, WE'RE LUCKY WE DONT'T HAVE TO RUN AROUND THE CURRAGH AND PAINT THE SHEEP AS THEY ALREADY SPORT THE COUNTY COLOUR. (THE MEATH LOT PAINT EVERYTHING AND BOY CAN THEY BOAST) UP THE LILLIES.
AS I SAID BEFORE WILL HOLLER IF I NEED TO.
UP MCDONAGH
ROSE.

Hi,
I went to old School down on O'Higgins Road from 1957 until moving up to new school behind the Church (I cant remember the year) but I was there until 1965. My teachers were Mrs. Rowley, Mrs. Forde, Mrs. McCormack and last but not least Mrs. Lawlor, I also had a Miss Millar for singing (she was lovely) some good memories some bad but always enjoyed "the playtime" - skipping, chasing, hop scotch, hoola hoop etc.
I remember the Band Hall especially guys who were friends with my father (as he was always into the music) he had the ceili band and they always practiced in our house or in the Wesslene Home their names from memory were Brendan McEnhill, Frank Scully, Davie Scott, Frankie McEnhill, Paddy O'Meara and I think there was a Paddy Blanch.

Re:Band Hall Hi Marykeaneclarke Yes as you say Prince Vince as we knew him went across the big pond and made some hit recordings as the Artist Vince Hill i can just imagine just what it was like having all those talented musicians playing or as they say now jamming in your house with your late Father May He Rest in Peace, I well remember my Late Mother looking forward to the Ceili's that were held on the various Locations in the Camp, and also as peader some of the lads out of the band did indeed leave the Army band and joined the Garda band, but when they started to put Band members on street patrol some rejoined the Army band. "Ah those were the days now they are looking for musicians in the latest batch of recruits such a decline of band members due to retirements etc, but I think that they will be soldiers 1st then musicians 2nd just like our comrades across the pond. as during the St Patricks military cermonies in the Garrison Church they had to use a musical honour that was recorded on CD, and it was not like the real thing. bye for now Johnny

Hi Johnny & Peader. Paddy Tracey Was posted from Dublin about 1958 to the Military Barracks in Wexford Town. He was Barrack QM in Wexford for a number of years. He had eight children 3 boys Pat Bernard Sean. Pat was in the band in the Curragh. I met him in the Garryowen dance hall in Hammersmith. He had formed his own band at the time in the late 60s. Neil Reade of the Hughie Green fame appeared there the following week (song Mother of Mine). Pats father Paddy left the army and worked for Guinness brewer in Park Royal . He passed away a number of years ago in London Rip. The last i heard of Pat he was in America. No the Tracey's that you are both talking about would be a different family . The names are similar. I lived in Wexford Bks. Ant.

There was a lot of very talented musicians on the Curragh as I remember, great singers also - they were not in the Band (as I called it as a child). There was a Criona Rowe (who lived in O'Higgins Road) she was a very good signer - who went on to doing Radio I am not sure about T.V. as there was very little of that in my day anyway.
Frank Brennan (Accordion) the late Mick McCoy (who was both a gentleman and a great drummer) Joe Kiely (Piano Accordion)

I Know this is an old thread, but for what it's worth, the band member Lydon P J is the step brother of J C Lydon father of John (rotten) Lydon.
