Back to the nits the first record of them is from Adam and Eve,
Didn't poor auld Abel arrive home scratching like the divil himself was trying to get out of him.
Right says Eve I will sort this in here lads and if she didn't proceed to fine comb them with a comb made out of a hedgehog turned upside down well I can tell you that was mighty sore didn't the lads end up with scabs on their scalps.
Any to cut a long story short Cain the bigger lad said to Abel if you ever put me through that again I'll F......g kill you ,
And as you now know the rest is history

And sure while we are still at it what about the FLEA epidemics that used to be in the Curragh years ago ( I don't know about any where else at the time cause that is where i was living then)
The shame of it, I think every household had them at some time or other, Every one denied having them but the signs were undeniable as the red spots were all over the place, any one with this mark of poor auld Cain would be treated as if a Leper,
The cure D.D.T a very great poison as we are now aware and every stitch of clothing in the house boiled to within an inch of the clothings life,
and woe betide those who after taking all steps to eradicate the little buggers, they were moved out of their house while the house was sealed and fumigated alas no hiding place or feeble excuse for the house holder who now would be labeled a dirty person and this was not true,
I remember these plagues used to happen every couple of years and people often wondered where they went well now I will tell you didn't they get a job in one of those circuses that tommy was on about sure that only came every so often as well and when here they used to save on the feeding bill by letting the fleas out to feed on the general populace
as good a theory as any

Hi Andy and all, Don't know how we got from the original topic, I think large class sizes made it very easy for the fleas/nits to spread helped in no small way by the bulls wool overcoats and Grey blankets we put on the beds. the white towels came in handy for combing them out on jeez you have me scratching now Tommy S

Hi All, I used to love the carnival the swinging boats, chair o planes, and the not to be forgotten bumpers, candyfloss and toffeeapples getting stuck in your hair. Even when the money was gone we'd still hang around hoping to maybe get a free go on something scanning the ground for any lost pennies. The bright colours, blaring music and flashing lights all added to the excitement it all, remember thinking it must have been a great life with all the travelling around!! Bye for now MaryF
