Hi All I do remember the priests calling to the houses some were nice others not so nice, even as a youngster you knew they were only there for one reason sorry to say but it was only to line their own pockets, i was always sent to mass when i was younger but as i got older i decided if i went or not and that is the way it is now if i go i go if i don't i don't feel guilty and that is the way it is for my kids its up to them if they want to go. Sorry if i offend anyone but thats how it is for me and as for the envelopes that come through the letterbox you know where mine goes.

Hi Rose & all The woman your mam worked for was spot on with what she said. The bible says believe and be baptised a baby can not do that yes all religons do have rites & ritual's thats why i am not in a religon or any denomation.A few year's back my aunt told me that my mother died from woumb cancer but because the doctor was catholic he would not remove her womb, my dad got down on his knees and begged them to send her to England but they wouldent, thank God thing's have inproved since then.I Dont feel bitter because that's what was done in those days. Ihad already left the church before i was told about that.God bless to all Ann

:)Hi Geraldine. Well said and i don't think the kids of today are too worried about hell fire and d amnation. We were so innocent we thought Old Nick would toast us in the flames of hell if we didn't repent . Sure who knows maybe that's were im going but at least i will be joined by a few priests bishops Christian Brothers and Nuns .I suppose Nick will burn us bones and all the old Devil. Cheers Anthony

Hi Ann,
Never mind the spelling, not great myself worse at the grammar. What is important is the strength of your arguments in your postings not afraid of the hot potatoe.

Hi All,
I do hope I don't offend anyone on the forum, but instead of filling the offertary envelopes with money for the Catholic Church, for just one week/month can we donate the money to the people of Haiti.

Hi Eileenmarie.
to be truthful the people of Haiti would be poorer if they were dependent on what the envelopes contain better if people donated at least the price of a pint, that might add up to something considerable

Hi Kathyo,Brendan,Andyand All, Great thread Kathyo you've certainly livened things up with this post and what a great range of opinions ;D its bringing out! Like Andy and Brendan I'm of the opinion that there are good and bad in every walk of life.I'm not a regular church goer but do find solace and comfort there at the high and low points in my life and the priests and nuns that I've meet throughout my life so far[apart from one who will remain unmentioned in the Presentation Convent in Kildare] have always treated me with respect and kindness and some have been an inspiration and help through some of the more difficult patches I've experienced. Sadly the bad press has tarred all the clergy with the same brush in public opinion and the genuine priests and nuns who have selflessly dedicated their whole lives all around the globe on missionary work and in war torn and third world countries doing fantastic work and really touching peoples lives[and sometimes losing theirs] are forgotten and never given the recognition they deserve. The bad eggs get all the publicity while the rest have to shoulder the blame and just carry on trying to help the less fortunate in society. I'm sure there are quite a few working tirelessly in Haiti right now helping, comforting and supporting those poor unfortunate people in their hours of need and they will still be there when the world press have left. Hope I haven't come across as preaching thats not my intention just voicing my opinion for what its worth. No offence meant to anyone else. Best Regards to All MaryF

Hi Mary,
Another well thought out piece, well put and your opinion,
True that evil in any form makes the news more often then good as is witnessed in the media it sells buckets of newspapers etc but sometimes for good to seem to triumph it to becomes tainted by corruption and can destroy undo a life time of great deeds

Yes Mary,
One would wonder how anyone who gets their property back intact could be so mean, true it does not promote honesty.
I once saw a man drop a roll of tenner's big as my fist it was, I ran and picked it up and gave chase, needless to say he was delighted and took off the elastic band and proceeded to peel off a bunch of tens the big pile he put in his pocket and said to me here is a little something for your honesty and gave me the rubber band, the moral of this tale is if you find a roll of cash get rid of the band before you give the cash back Andy
