Hi Maura,
Have come across a photo of four curragh ladies at an evening out, perhaps the annual dinner and dance. One of them is my Mum and the others are a Mrs Kehoe, Mrs Powell and Mrs Carney, the other lady I really don't recognise, but they all look so lovely. As I have only got it in my pictures I need to send it to someone's hotmail address so that they can view it.
Please let me know if you have a hotmail address and I will forward it on to you.
Take care and hope you have a wonderful night on Friday, wish I was there with you all.
Eileen

Hi all Well after the sad and trying week last week, I now have the time to contribute to the forum. I had the great pleasure of taking a a very good friend of mine on a visit through the Camp last Saturday, Patty Troy and her son Matt who had come over from England for Jenny Quinn's Funeral (RIP). Patty was married to a first cousin of Kelly's who is now sadly deceased. I drove and walked with Patty and Matt throughout the Camp taking in all the old haunts, from Sandes, the Schools, Fruit Farm, butchers, Hospital, St Brigid's Church, Mc Donagh Swinging boats, Donnelly's Hollow, finishing off in the Golf Club. It is only when you see the Camp through the eyes and memories a long time absentee, that you begin to really realise the extent of a way of life that is long since disappearing and becoming extinct. I fear that the old Camp as we have known it is only a memory now and it is through our memories and recall on this site that the heritage will be held. It was ironic that in Pearse Quarters the only block left standing was where Patty and her family lived in No 10, and my family and I, in No 6. We laughed and were sad recalling the residents, characters and people of Pearse Barracks during the tour. Patty's brother Paddy Troy, is a member of the forum and contributes his memories and recall, and Patty assured me that she will look in on us when she is settled in back home. Patty asked me to send best wishes to all the Pearse contributors and wishes you all well. Regards JKelly (Up Pearse!)

Joey,
I would have been just a whipper snapper when the troys left pearse but remember them all the same, I think when they lived in the middle block when there house went on fire they had a green galvanized shed if my memory serves me right. anyway for us locals as it were its bad enough looking at the erosion of the camp day by day, but for someone that has been away for so long its a real shock as you were saying, Talking of the last block in pearse I wonder if we put our heads together we (shadowers) could try to save the last block from been demolished iam sure it could be saved and used as part of the museum of single officer accommodation or many other uses. I suppose the fact of the matter is it will never be used as married quarters again. But that doesn't mean it cant be saved we could explore ideas on this on the twenty fourth if there were enough people interested in launching a campaign.
