Hi all, Well boys and girls its almost upon us again Halloween and what fun we used to have by now every available tyre and bit of wood basically anything we could beg steel or borrow would've been hoarded and well hidden from the neighbouring barrack kids !!! The monkey nuts and the apples were bought and ready for donking. The sticky toffee apples I used to love them. The little plastic masks already picked out and ready for the big night. Your face was as red as a beetroot and it was almost impossible to breath or see through them so for the most part we wore them on our heads. So off we'd go first stop for us the mens hospital then the mess in Pearse and then the houses. 'a penny for the poor ould pookie'. then back home to count up our stash of money and goodies play the games and then head out to watch the bonfire all simple innocent fun. Not like today, I was out shopping with my youngest daughter yesterday[whos birthday happens to be on Halloween god love her] and the stuff you can buy now costumes, masks and all the other gear its become a real money maker nowadays. But didn't we we had as much fun without hardly any expense or layout? Regards to all and have fun MaryF

Hi MaryF and All You are right about the choice of stuff the kids of today have when we were growing up we were lucky to have anything i remember going out and having a black plastic bag and some boot polish on my face and it was the best fun and if you got 1 penny at each door you were delighted i think we were more excited with our big bags of sweets, if you give them less than a euro now their not happy. We had less choice but much more fun and a lot of happy memories. bye for now Geraldine.

Hi All. Well Done to the Morden Platoon. I must have been good fun meeting and chatting like that. Who knows perhaps sometime in the New Year you may have a few visitors to that Café. In reference to Halloween, gone are the days of the Bon Fires, what, with Health and Safety, environmental damage etc. The only thing I hate about Halloween is the effect it has on my poor old dog, A westy,he must have the most sensitive ears in the country. I will have to give him a sedative before hand. Of course this does not detract from the fun we had as little kids running around the Camp on Halloween. Imagine only 59 days left to Christmas Day.
Regards to all Joey

Hi Joey Can just about cope with the fact that Halloween is just three days away but to have to wait 59 days for Christmas is to much, although its not the same when the kids have grown and stop believing in the great man himself thats when their orders start coming in phones, ipods, playstations, and anything else thats not under 100 euro god be with the days when we were young and if you only got a Christmas stocking you were happy. So when the kids are still believing in the man himself cherish the moment because it wont last forever.Guess its time to start hitting the shops now no make that the bank first. Hi All. On Halloween if I'm not mistaking all i seem to remember was been blindfolded and trying my luck on items dangling from the ceiling on a string and my first taste was a bar of soap.Im sure the next was a toffee apple but i always remember the soap and don't think i will pull that stroke on my Grandchildren. The the stocking fillers for Christmas were the three fruits beginning with the letter N Napple Norange and Nannana.Well to tell the truth my first Christmas presant was a little timber box with timber bricks which you could build a house front. The following year it was a cap gun with a few rolls of caps,We use to drive people mad by placing caps between two bolts joined together with a nut and throwing it in the air it caused a huge bang when it hit the ground . Cheers Anthony

Hi All. I didn't have a good Halloween the team got beat 3-1 at Chester .Got the coach there and back with my Wife arrived at Wimbledon 9-30pm.Took the 163 bus to Morden on the journey we thought the windows in the bus had been smashed it was someone bombarding the bus with eggs and as the windows were open many of the passengers were hit.My Wife had egg all over her hair and clothes and i was also hit.No one was injured but I'm afraid we didn't see the funny side and also the shock of the noise of them hitting the windows.Just wondering do you get this happening in Ireland? Regards Anthony.

Hi Anthony,
What a horrible experience for both you and your wife, I hope you are both ok. And they wonder why people don’t like travelling on public transport.

Hi Anthony and all, Sorry to hear what happened to you and your wife that was terrible and must have been so frightening. Then we had that young lad in sutton out celebrating with his girlfriend and a bunch of yobs took her witches hat and when he looked for it back they turned on him and beat him to death doesn't bear thinking about what is the world coming to its just sick, totally mindless violence. Bye for now MaryF

Hi MaryF. What happen to us was minor compared what happened to that poor lad in Sutton. If they find the yobs who are responsible what will they get as a sentence 12 months.I'm afraid that's the trouble the victim pays the ultimate price his live and criminals gets off lightly.I think .those who take a life should pay the same price the ultimate penalty . Regards Anthony.
