The Grant Military History is a bit short at the moment. My Dad Phil(Tiny as he was known), walked from Wexford(or so his story goes) in 1961 to the Curragh, 8 months later he was in the Congo. He spent his whole career in the Engineer Corps, mainly the School in McDermott Barracks. He retired in 2004 as Sgt Maj ater 43 years service. Having grown up in the Curragh, there was only one career for me(or so he told me !!) Before I knew it , in 1993 i was been square bashed around the Cadet School. 16 years later and after 4 trips Overseas, I have enjoyed most of it!! Not sure if baby Alex will continue in tradition?? Currently based in Collins Barracks, stuck in the promotion embargo

Hi Justfoundsite. In those days shanksmare was a great form of transport down in Wexford . Well you could walk on the roads as there weren't many cars about with lunatics behind the wheels like today. Then if you did thumb a lift you had much greater chance of getting one than you have now. Mind i came to the Curragh from Wexford 1961 in the back of a Bedford wagon ,canvas covered with wooden slatted seating in the back.Up the boys of Wexford. ;D Cheers ;D Ant.
