I believe that there is some sort of celeberation in respect of Ex Major Paddy Galvin who is now at a ripe age of 90 and still going strong , perhaps johnny sharky or Joey could fill in the blanks. I think of it because I worked on the switch board under the Major and used to do the old camp stand to in a landrover we cover the plains with bren loaded moving on any one on the plains not like to day ,who likes can park willy nilly and the curragh ranger and his staff or the poor auld soldier, becomes refuse collectors. I have had a few walks over the plains in recent times and the mindless dumping is a disgrace.

The Ex-Sgt. Mjr. you refer to is Mick Galvin and not Paddy. Mick resides in Thurles and is really enjoying good health in his advancing years. I am in touch with this veteran Clareman on a regular basis. Mick, I know you are not on the Internet, but I wish you many more years of happy retirement.

Hi Anthony, I do not know when Mick Galvin was promoted Sgt Major but I do know he held that post when I was attached there 1968 /69 as the switchboard operator. That would be the old plug and pully system and I was on strict orders to keep one of the 3 outside lines exclusively for the O.C and the other for the Adjt. a right juggling act with one left for rest of the barracks.
I think it was Joey who was to chat to Paddy Clancy but if I run into Paddy I will forward your Regards.

How goes it Tony,
The credit for the photo must go to either Matt or Donal, Donal I think as he pointed himself out. I am fairly sure that the line up of vehicles were guard room side and running down the square,
When he became RSM I do not know but it was in the 1960s he was RSM when I was there on attachment from Signals 1968/69.
