I have been browsing this site for some days now and very nice it is. A lot of very familiar names and memories , but back to my little piece. The great entertainment of THE HOPS. How we looked forward to these social events where one could do their own thing. Ceannt Hop supervised byBusby Brennan A nice Man , The Wes Mrs Croyden in the cloak room a grand women , Music supplied by Tony Lumston RIP, Also Scobie Smyth, Then Clarke Bks on a Sunday Afternoon I think? also Brownstown. Then the big ones the dances in the Gym, Kilcullen, the Derby House or the CYMS, Dreamland or Lawlers in Naas. and not forgetting the contribution of Lambes Fruit farm in Fonstown This gave us the money to fund our lifestyles and help support the family unit. , the travelling there in the truch down the bog road the singing and bouncing over the bumps. and JimFlood RIP. roaring get up to the headland or other such words and that itself was another era nearly all the names of the membership would have ben at some or all of these well thats enough jabbering fromme, this is a great forum for keeping in touch with ones past and jogging memories of what I considered great times and great people and community. For now cheers

Hi Andy
Good to see you posting and welcome to the forum. I am afraid "The Hops" were a little before my time, but I do remember my older sisters Maura and Anne talking about them. they still talk about them to this day. However I did go to Scobie Smyth's Disco in the late 1970's on a Sunday afternoon 3 to 6 in the Gaelic Hall.
All the best
Matt
