That young lad of yours getting big as a house, and who is that he is walking "Were a couple of swells"
Have to say The Curragh looks grand on such a lovely day buildings getting scarcer but the furze in full bloom just grand and all towered over by the Water tower.

I enjoyed browsing your Curragh photos. What happened the ranges they look derelict. My Curragh days were 1954-56 and following years on courses in Depot Sigs. I remember Ma Sands, The Wes, The Glassy House, McAteer the barber, McGinn's shop, the Range Warden's beautiful daughter. Happy days ! Keep up the good work. 1 Fd Sigs

Hi Pronto
The longer ranges used for rifle fire were finally closed for shooting last year. They were closed on request by locals living it the area. There may have been other issues, but nothing disclosed. Its a pity as they were the finest rifle ranges in the country.
All the best
Matt

Hi all targets up flag down watch your targets, now all is quiet on the ranges just the odd shoot on N0 3 range plus No 1 range and the Pistol (new one) on occasions but if one needs peace and quiet just walk up around the old grenade range area and the woods alongside and look for the wild life that is in habitat around there. I have often seen tom cats hunting out the back of the butts( big moggies living wild) foxes rabbits hares all kind of bird life. dog walkers are reminded at this time of the year to keep their dogs on leads as the lambs are out now on the plains and no matter what size if they get into packs the damage that can be done to flocks. but as i said before get out and enjoy the best play ground in the world. bye for now Johnny

Matt Thank you for the info on the ranges. The least they might have done is to tidy up when it was decided to discontinue using them. They remind me of a tinkers road side camp when the occupants departed. In my time you had to leave the firing point and the butts spic-and-span, every cig butt, cartridge case and piece of patching paper, collected and taken away. O yes and the target frames lined up at half mast, even on a Friday, with a long W/E pass in your back pocket and "the long haired chum" anxiously waiting. Any chance that you might write a very short note on what happened the other places that I mentioned, The Wes etc. I presume that they are all long gone.
