Hello again Ned, Again thanks for info re faded letter, I have taken the post off the forum and I will try to get clearer prints to scan, the original letter from the Ministry of national service, is well faded, it will soon look like a piece of parchment, if it comes out any clearer I will post it again,I dont know if anybody might be interested but I would like to know if any ex Irish Defence force members got notice of call up to the "British Army" and what the outcome was, as National service applied prior to 1960, this would only apply to the older of us still hanging on??? Thanks again Ned I am now going to give your advice a try, Ex Tpr Kelly Ex 1St Armd Sqdn 53/54/55

Hi Kelly, I have one from the Australian Army from 1970 but can't seem to get it attached. The draft then was done by drawing a ball with a date of birth on it out of a drum. Wouldn't you know it would be the only lottery I would win. The Vietnam war was going strong then so I declined their kind offer as I was only married a couple of months and that was good enough for them. Mind you the war has been over 40 years but I'm still married!!! Charlie.

In reality you can Thank Mary for marrying you, that was indeed a fine mess she got you out of.
