Hi kathyo,
There was another set of twins that I know of. they were the McCourts (I think the name is right ), if you came down the Ball alley hill in McDonagh, at the bottom there was a house directly opposite on the corner they lived there in the early 60s, they appeared on an apisode of the School around the corner with Paddy Crosbie in 1963? my younger brother Kit was also on the same programme. Bye for now Liam

Hi All I would like to thank Liam and Carmel for their invitation to their 60th, just remind us older members of the forum when it gets nearer the time as we have a tendency to forget things when we get past the 60s. Looking forward to a great night and a really good choice of music from my old Pal Fergie Pearson. Talking of twins, I remember the Mc Court Twins, Denise and Deirdre, they actually lived in Pearse beside Timoneys, before moving down to their last location. We also had The Mc Bennett twins in Pearse, the Quinn twins in Plunkett no relation to my connection, and Larry and Jimmy Ryan from Clarke/Mc Dermott. While we are on the subject of twins. There are 56 houses in my Estate, and in all there were 14 sets of twins who have were born therein, including my two Grandsons. Wonder what the hell is in the water? here. Regards and best wishes to you all. JKelly

Joey the Mc Courts i do remember as blonde curls and identical, cant say i remember the other sets of twins you talk about but we also had the Mc Donelds Ann and Olive in Pearse, Joey what sort of spell are you casting on that estate of yours 14 sets of twins, is that in a record book, i would think it should be in the guinness book of records.

I have a hazy recollection that Kevin McCourt played the role of one of the participants in the recreation by the Army of the Donnelly -Vs- Cooper fight at Donnelly's Hollow sometime in the 1950s. Just found this on wikipedia and it would tie in to what i remember "Donnelly's arm made it back to Kilcullen in the 1950s.[35] Publican Jim Byrne came up with the idea of recreating Donnelly's fight with George Cooper in the Curragh.[40] The fight was promoted by bringing Donnelly's arm back to where it defeated the English opponent.[40], The pageant brought the historic contest alive again, rekindling the Dan Donnelly fire.[41] It was An Tóstal, an Irish festival started at that time nationwide in an effort to promote tourism.[42] Each region was encouraged to have some sort of festival to attract visitors. This was the genesis of the Dan Donnelly pageant. Kevin McCourt, an army officer, was picked to play George Cooper, the English champion; Jim Berney was chosen to portray Dan Donnelly, the Irish champion. George Cooper and Dan Donnelly, as played by McCourt and Berney, had a group of supporters as well, dressed up and cheering, carrying them down into the arena.[41] Two "supporters" performed getting involved in a ruckus. Local sporting clubs and townspeople comprised the spectators." Hope this is of use to someone. Regards, johnd

Hi Liam and Carmel. Many thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately I will be unable to attend. Another engagement has arisen, which I had totally forgotten about, and was reminded by her good self as to this. I would dearly have loved to be in attendance. However I know that Carmel and yourself will have a great night I will catch up at a later stage. See I told you that I was suffering from that age related forgetfulness. Regards and the sincere best wishes to you both. Joey and Kelly K.
