The Curragh Musical Society was very active during the late 1950’s and 60’s. The society attracted many members from the surrounding towns and performed many of the great musicals including “ Show Boat”, “ South Pacific”, “ My Fair Lady” and many more over the years. In 1979 the society got together again for one final show and produced the Padraic Pearse Commemoration Pageant “ Song of Glory”. The final show was a masterpiece and included the President Patrick Hillery in the audience on the final night. The Song of Glory: www.curragh.info/New_Folder/glory.htmMatt

Hi Matt
Yes some great shows put on in the Gym, the gym was a major part of our young lives and even into our teens, when we moved from musicals to the era of the showbands great times, enjoyed looking back at the photos once more, and as with all the musicals the children from the schools in the Camp had their moment of glory.
Thanks again Matt
Andy

I know video/film was rare in the 1970s but has anyone got video/film footage from any of the shows from these times - especially anything from the Gaelic Hall or Girls School like Tops of the Town.
I am particularly hoping to track down footage of my father Maxi McLoughlin to show my kids!!
So who in the Curragh would have recorded community events on film?
Thanks
Mark

Just joined and as yet not sure what I'm doing. Whilst I was quite small when the Musical Society was 'alive' my brother and sister (Therese and Brendan RIP both unfortunately) were certainly very much involved. I do remember Show Boat and my brother's rich bass voice. It's a pity it folded. From memory I know it was a very professional outfit and was much admired on the Curragh.
