It is with regret that I learned today of
The Death of an old Pal ex McDonagh His family well known to nearly all site members.
Johnny Dolan passed away this morning may he rest in peace. I went to school with Johnny and knocked around throughout most of our youth. It was his birthday this week and he was greatly touched and delighted by a phone call from another auld pal an neighbour Andy Heffernan,
Johnny was a quite guy as a youth, he worked in the stables around the Curragh, he was a good guy,
He was married in England where he died, and to his wife and two children my sincere sorrow at their loss.
I would also like to extend my sincere sorrow to all the Dolan clan his sisters Mary B in Orchard Park, Chrissie Deegan,Newbridge, His nephew Sham the Man to name a few of his family
Johnny R.I.P.
Andy

Hi Andy and All, So sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Johnny Dolan. My deepest sympathy goes out to his wife and children, Maryb and Sham and the rest of the family I am so sorry for your sad loss. Sham and Andy, as Johnny passed away over here and we all know it takes over 2 weeks in England for a funeral to take place if we knew what part of the country and the time and date of the service MAYBE just MAYBE someone from the forum over here might make it just to pay all our respects from the Curragh. Its just a thought!!! Maybe that thought might grow and grow as the forum attracts more members over this side of the water and we all start to meet up on a regular basis and support each other whenever needed!!!

Hi Mary, Andy,Joey, and all forum members. This has been a very sad time for all the family, loosing Johnny at such a young age. My sisters Chrissie and Noeleen and myself went over last sunday for his birthday on monday 25, he put up a brave front, even though he wasn't well, we got him to blow out the candles on his cake, had a few drinks, and sang a few songs with him, he was thrilled with andys card, and had a laugh at the things andy was saying about what they got up to in their younger days, and then a good friend andy heffernan rang him and that made his day, johnny was best man at andys wedding, he enjoyed the day, as much as he could. I was telling him some of the stories that were on the forum, and we reminised about growing up on the curragh, and he said to tell Joey, up mcdonagh all the time. But sadly we came home on tuesday evening, and got word wed morning he had passed away. r.i.p. We just got word that the funeral could take up to 3 weeks, he lives in Woolwich, london se18, when i am sure of the dates i will put it up on the site, i'm sure he would love people from the curragh to be there if possible. Thanks for the kind words. Bye for now Mary Byrne (dolan)

Hi MaryB So sorry to hear of the untimely death of your beloved brother Johnny, I have known Johnny all my life and indeed our Birthdays are just a few days apart. Johnny was a ray of sunshine and although like myself small in stature, he was big in mind and heart, generous and kind, fun loving, and he indeed will be very sadly missed by you his family, and his many good friends. "Time can heal a broken heart, but you have to surrender the pieces. We are here if you need us.
Yours
In Sympathy

Hello Mary,
It is a long time to have to wait to put your loved one to rest. My sister-in-law died on 8th December (RIP) and we didn't get to say our final goodbye until the 29th December. My thoughts and prayers are for all of your family at this time.

Hi Mick Johnny Kelly here welcome to the forum. Indeed it was very sad to learn about the sad passing of A good friend from the past THE LATE JOHNNY DOLAN,RIP. How are you keeping, I see your son doing damage to the Lillies in Croke Park and in Longford, is He still playing, Joey said he met you in Croker but could not make the connection between the two of you, seen a nice photo of yourself and Paddy Troy on the forum, imagine it is 40 years since Paddy left for England, are you still serving or have you gone like most of us, all the best for now. Johnny Kelly formally of No6 Pearse Tce.

Hi All, We finally got to put Johnny to rest on Monday, it was a very emotional day, but everything went off fine, it was a dreadful day weather wise, rain , sleet and a bit of snow. I just want to thank everyone for their thoughts and good wishes, a special thanks to Mary Farrell who lives in london and made it down to the funeral, it was very good of her, and to eileen and kathy o'brien who gave mary cards to bring down, the family were delighted, when i explained who they were. We all had a good chat afterwards reminising about our young days growing up in the curragh, the english people there were fasinated with all the stories, they all thought it certainly was a unique place to grow up. Bye for now. Mary Dolan
