Hi Folks. Just checking they may be on a special occasion as they all seem to be wearing walkingout uniforms. Now that may have been before my time as we didn't get issued with walkingout clobber. Then it could be after i left 64 maybe someone can shed some light on this? Jealous never got a W O uniform they looked a bit like the Officers uniforms. Cheers Ant.

Hi Matt and all, Just looking at the Photo of the lads in Sandes, none of whom I can make out, however it always reminds me of the lads going to Ma Sandes for the Cuppa Cha/Milk or Mineral and the Big Russian Slice, made in Boland’s bakery of all the remnants of left over cakes at the end of the days baking, put together and iced over the top with pink icing and about 2 inches thick. Eat one and you were full for the day, eat two and you would swear that it was a bail of Briquettes lying in your tummy. the Jars of sweets just behind the person serving also reminds me of when, there was only one person serving and a few of us would distract him/her and one of us would lift the jar of sweets down from the counter, which were incidentally bagged and ready for sale and help ourselves. I know "Shame". We often went through 2 jars in this way. The Old Avery weighing scales in the background would also be worth a fortune now in the antique trade. There was also another Boland’s Bun, round with a domed top and filled with currants, and around its midriff a girth of grease proof paper, often ate the bun and licked the paper to death. Regards JKelly

Matt,
What a blast from the past and lovely snap of three happy Curragh ladies enjoying a swim in the pool. The bathing costumes or togs as we called them, bring back memories especially K. Sheridans, had a pair just the same with the smocking, mine were blue with goldfish on them, Guineys best I do believe. The bathing caps certainly kept the hair dry, but would take scalp and all of when being removed.
Happy Happy Days.
Rose.
