Lads, you will be delighted to hear that I have just spoken to Jim Clohessy on the phone. He is over staying with Diarmuid (Clox) on a visit. He is 99 years old tomorrow. What a man. Let us hope he can make it to 100 and we can all come to Newbridge for the party!

Hi All,
Thanks for the memory Mick. I remember it all and loved the choir, the practices, the singing at all the locations. I still have a love for music and have been singing with the Aquinas Singers in Newbridge College for the past 34 years. Incidentally, I went to the Air Corps Apprentice School in 1964. Jim Clohessy will be 100 next year, his son Diarmuid is a dentist in England. Mrs Butler is still alive and living in Sligo. She is in her 90s. Her husband Des died a few years ago (R.I.P.). I remember Peter Hickey (R.I.P.), the sacristan, rendering Jerusalem at one of the Christmas parties and saying afterwards, "If I had my teeth in I would have lifted the roof off the ward". Keep up the good work Matt.

Hello Eddie,
Nice to hear from you . Thanks for your kind words . Hope that you are keeping well. And it is good to hear that you are singing with the Aquinas Singers in Newbridge College . I contacted Des Butler last year, and I forwarded a copy of the article on the Choir to her, along with the Picture of the Boys Choir in the old Church . And she was indeed very good to us all and a great Music Teacher. She gave us a great interest in Music for later years . And that's good that Jim Clohessy will be 100 next year . That's a great age . He too was one of the Founded Members of the Mens Choir. Once again Eddie, it is nice hearing from you .Take care .
Fond regards,
Mick

Hello Michael as you stated Mrs Butler was a perfectionist at her work with the choir. worked us hard and dare you come into choir practice with a cold or flu in case you passed it on to the rest of the choir. I remember doing 2 trips up to Montrose TV station to perform at the Benediction that went out live after the 6pm News each Sunday evening.plus the concerts etc that we took part in especially in the girls school.it is good to see that there is still family connections still giving their free time to the Curragh Chior and are still in good demand for their services in the locality and surrounding counties.my wife and Matt's sister Anne who is a member of the forum are members of the choir and will soon be getting into practicing for the Xmas programme. still remember the tuning fork being tapped by Mrs Butler on top of the church organ with Miss O'Callaghan looking on. keep well Michael Johnny

Hello Johnny,
How are you? I left the Choir in 1962. But I remember the Choir singing at the Benediction in RTE . And I also remember going to a Concert in the Girl's School around Christmas time in 1968. And the Choir sang The Halleluiah Chorus, accompanied by the Curragh Band. They sang it very well. And as you rightly say, it is indeed good to see that there is still family connections maintaining the good tradition of the Choir in the past. And I always look forward to the Vigil Mass on Christmas Eve and the Carol Service . Nice to hear from you .
Take care Johnny.
Fond Regards,
Michael
