moved into new house opposite Gym and chapel(old one)remember one night search lights flashing all over the place and jeeps and lorries up and down the road, you could see the concentration camp from the bedroom window, my dad had to go to his barracks and round up his unit to look for the escaped detainees, I believe there was a lot of stepping over lumps and bumps in the dark between the camp and Brownstown, I was hiding behind the bedroom window with my hurly stick ready to tackle any escaped prisoner who tried to get into our house, I must have been 10 at the time. Remember throwing sweets over the wire into the camp and listening to them singing exciting days!!!

Hi Joe, Just read your post about Tintown Internment Camp 57-59. I often think about it. I suppose it has been demolished. I was with 1 Fd Sigs in Cork at the time when myself and another Lt were sent to Limerick to join a 12 Bn Capt known as "The Whip" and his Pl and head for the Curragh to do guard at the internment camp for about a month. I remember the towers and doing the rounds with the Guard Comdr., 24 hrs on, 2 days off. I think the break out occurred later. What about the Glass House, is it gone. I would love to visit the Curragh and do the rounds but I have left it too late now. Thanks for the memories.
