Was his number 810346 and was he born 17/5/1942?. He was with "A" Coy 34 Bn. I didn't know him personally. I hope some of his comrades from "A" Coy will be able to give you some info on him. (We are dying out gradually.)

Matt, What a wonderful tribute to our comrades who served in the Congo. My eyes were filled with tears at the music that accompanied the clip. You might let us know the title of the music please. Regards. Colin.

Hi Guys
Just came across this site.
I lived in Coombe Street a few doors up from Andrew Wickham. Then then moved to Drimnagh as did we. Its nice to see that he is still remembered.
Thanks

Hi Colin
It's the theme music from the TV series "Band of Brothers". It was based on an American Paratroopers during WW II.

Matt

This is an incredible forum. I've just spent the last 2 hours going through it with my Dad who served in the 33 & 38 BN. Throughout my life he has never really spoken about his experiences out there but tonight whilst looking at all the old photos and reading Derek's tales he started to tell me about his time out there, the people he recognized in the photos (a lot), those he served with, the guys who died and the action he was involved in. What was clear was his totally admiration and respect for everyone and how proud he is to have served with them. We also came across some photos of my long deceased Uncle (my Dad older brother) who was with the 35 BN (I think). Keep up the good work. I'll ask if he wants to post any of his photos up on the forum if that's ok.

Hello Ant. Happy New Year. I think you are referring to Larry Finn. I think Mark's Dad was in the Artillary.

Hello 67 Kelly. Happy New Year. Many thanks for your kind invite to your re-uniun. Unfortunately I could not attend due to ill-health. I've had four operations in the last year and still under doctors care.

Hi there,
My Uncle who lived with us when i was a kid served two tours in the Congo and one in Cyprus and as kids he would tell us of the stories of the Congo, i point out he never went into details of the harsher side of things as we were kids, i always loved listening to the adventures he spoke about and the work details they carried out etc, his name was Finbar O Connor known as Gussy O Connor, served out of Cork's 4th infantry Battalion for 31 years, he retired in 1987(88).
Why im here i want to try find out the company and what year he would have served in the Congo and if there are any pictures of his battalion there so i could show him, he is not a young man anymore and details are sketchy at best when he talks about it nowadays, would love something to jog his memory so to speak as i always have a feeling the Congo was where he loved his life most
If theres any thing at all please let me know
Thanks
Jason
