Tales of turf collections remind me of the old dump at Hare Park. That place could be a mine of material for burning in ranges or open fires. We Murrays and indeed the Wilsons and Coynes could be sent down their and told not to come back until we had filled a wheel barrow or old pram full of sticks or discarded turf. The lorry loads of turf/coal being delivered to the Sgts mess in McDonagh Bks which the recruits or whoever was on CB used to be expected to shovel it in, but Lucky for them we from McDonagh Tce used to go over at night with our dads kitbag ,fill them up with turf and run home with it, or if it was too heavy the old pram came in handy. There was enough smoke coming from McDonagh to elect half a dozen popes

Jim Noone Oh yes there were sweet apple trees you just had to know where to look and the Pear trees were there for the taking also. And yes few apples were fot consumption the thrill of the chase from the PA's or Mr Costello were the prize

Thanks Rose, great to read about the camp, especially to see the names of neighbours who lived in McDonagh when we were kids The last person I met before they knocked the old block down was was our old neighbour Mrs Donoghue [rip].

Hi Willie, As far as I know Mrs. Donoghue was the last to leave the block, if I'm not mistaken she was the only resident for a while before she moved up to the fire station. Must have been very lonesome for her, she had been living in that house as long as I can remember, to have seen McDonagh go from the hive of activity it was to deserted must have been terrible. The same thing happened in a lot of the quarters, suppose she was'nt the only one in that position. Rose.

Hi Rose and Willie, Yes Mrs Donoghue and her son were the last to leave McDonagh, she would have seen many people pass through sad indeed from busy to quiet.

Hi Sean, how are you?? You remember me, Olive Mc Namara? I am Matt's younger sister. I hav'nt seen you in years Sean. It is great people from the good old curragh are able to get back in contact with one another on this great site Matt has set up Sean i remember so well the musicals in the curragh, the were great. Do you remember Captain Mellrick R I P, he conducted the army band? I used to be amazed by him. Like your dad sean r i p mam used to put in endless hours of work for the musicals, some night she would not even get to bed at all, sewing through the night, but she took it all in her stride. The were the good days and it is great to have such good memories of them. It is great to be in touch Sean, take care and will chat again soon
