Hi Johnny. I Will send on the photos in the morning. I tried to send some photos to Matt, but I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly. Our Salmon season is open since 1st Feb, unfortunately the River Moy is in flood since opening day and I have not had a chance to fish it yet. I fished the Drowes River, near Bundoran, on the 1st January and got some great photos of the first salmon of 2011, (see the Irish Angler's Digest, "O'Connor Files" Feb issue) Our brown trout season starts on the 15th Feb. We fish Lough Mask at Tourmakeady. My nephew Pat McMahon from Newbridge comes up every year, and together with a gang of friends from a local fishing club, we celebrate opening day with a BBQ on the lake shore, with pots of stew etc, (Pats dad is Paddy McMahon who used to live in Ceannt) Regards John

Re:CURRAGH CAMP THEN AND NOW. Hi Dan/John OConnor good idea on both ends. JOHNwet nets to you for the season, a friend of mine has invited me out on his boat juring the coming season, as i have been doing for the last few years but i prefer the boat trips out of wexford for a sea fishing day out, dan if memory sets me right there are over 100 steps up to the top of the tower or is it120?its a few years since i ran up them the last time i ran up the steps i ran down the outside on a rope, no Mammy around to shout at me, : if you fall off that rope and break your leg dont come running home to me? i came across a very nice photo of the camp looking west from pearse taking in the burma road as far as the magazine i will endevour to get a copy of it this week, bye for now Johnny

With Matt's permission, I am currently undertaking a project in the Philippines for Gravestone Photographic Resource indexing and photographing old graves here for their site. They supply photographs of gravestones and memorials free to family genealogists and researchers, a great service indeed. They have asked for additional volunteers especially in Ireland so would be delighted if any of the members here would like to assist, lots to record from the Curragh, Newbridge and Kildare, but anywhere else is also more than welcome. Memorials inside old churches as well as graveyards...members in the UK and further afield too will be welcomed with open arms. You may contact myself directly at james.parminter@gravestonephotos.com or at my e-mail address in the members area or log onto www.gravestonephotos.com.

Not sure if this is the right area to post this.Yesterday my wife and I payed a flying visit to the Curragh had a quick walk around. The door of St.Paul.Church was open as they were painting the place.A kind lady allowed us to have a look around inside. The Camp was my home for the first 20 years of my life and I'd never been inside it.Something about it been a mortal sin for us Catholics. To my surprise the wall were blue and also the seats. The lady said they have a candle lite service on Christmas Eve.Now that would be something!Anyway a first for this 59 year old.We enjoyed our little tour. Now what would be the chances of a trip to the top of the Water Tower? Is that a "no no"I hear from the Curragh Command?.

No Dan you are the tourist guide extraordinaire , you have left your foot print on all 159 steps, you know every nook and cranny of the Curragh, nice of you to be telling tall stories of me you must have been on the top step when doing so.
I agree any one interested should call see you, or Charlie and let us not forget Reggie a fountain of knowledge and memorabilia like yourself
Andy

Hi all,I must concur with Dan that Mr. Brennan is a great tour guide of all things of The Curragh and surrounds. On a recent trip there,he took me to every nook and give me a running history of all including a visit to The Water Tower and a meeting with Dan himself which was great.Although, I think Dan will agree with me when I say Andy showed a lack of judgment when he asked if I might like to climb the 159 steps. One look would have told you I had trouble climbing into bed.Maybe Andy wanted to see Dan's rescue team in action. But a great day was had by all and again my thanks to Dan,Charlie ,Reggie and Andy for their time and info. Best Wishes to All. Charlie.
