Hello Mary K
It was a great delight to hear from you, a real blast from the past!
The email you mentioned did not reach me.
Next time you are coming to London, to visit Liam's last resting place, or for any other reason, get in touch with me beforehand regarding accomodation arrangements.
Nice to hear that music still runs in the blood of your family.
Do you have any idea if former members of the Glenila gang, as named in my last message, are still around?
Bye for now and take care.
Con

Hi All,
Was at mass in the College to-day, the priest during his sermon said he considered himself a Kildare man even though he was born in Dublin, he came to live on the Camp as a very young chap and attended the College as a boarder along with his brother. He said his parents worked on the Camp and retired to Moore Park, here in Newbridge. He said he was very proud to call himself a Curragh and Army Brat and when asked where he hailed from he always replied Curragh Camp. His sir-name is Collins got his christian name, but for the life of me can't remember what it is, that what comes from being a woman of a certain age.
Anyway anyone shed any light of who his parents were, wondering was it Mrs. Collins school teacher, this gentleman I would say is maybe well into his seventies. For the life of me I can't figure out how growing up, he was not mentioned in the house, as a priest from the Community got plenty of mention back in the day. While I was going to school Mrs. Collins always lived in Newbridge, of course that does not mean to say she did not live on the Camp before that.
Anyone any ideas?
Rose.

Hi all Sorry for my absence of late, busy times. Just to answer Billy Hyland on the issue of Barrack boundaries. Mc Donagh starting at the left hand side of Ballymany x roads taking in Mc Donagh Pitch and Putt Course, The Church, on down Dairy Hill or the Post office Hill, the Fruit Farm, and onwards out towards the Rising Sun, turning left taking you towards x roads for the Bush. if you turned left ther and headed back towards the ranges, and up towards the Hospital hill all on the left hand side was under the auspices of Mc Donagh. Including the new dining area, the pumping station, and a straight line out towards the Jockey Hospital, would encompass all of Mc Donagh area, it was in fact the biggest encatchment area of the Camp. The Sewerage Farm and the little galavanized house on it's premises was also belonging to Mc Donagh area. In fact any person who lived therein was employed by the Board of Works as the caretaker for the farm. I often wondered why they called it a sewerage farm. Hope this sheds some light on the debate. Regards JKelly

Me again. While I am on the subject of Rose Cottage, there were many houses on the Camp allocated to various civilian persons employed by the Military in a Civilian capacity. ie. The Sacristan, School teachers, Range Wardens, Pumping stations, etc. Regards JKelly

Hi Rose It is a great possibility that Fr Collins as you mentioned would be a son of Mrs Collins the School Teacher, her husband was an Army Officer and before moving into Newbridge the may have lived on the Camp in Officers Quarters, if you meet him again you might have a word with him on the subject. Regards JoeyK

Hi Joey,
Why am I not surprised McDonagh was the biggest encatchment area in and around the Camp, nothing but the best for some us. Can remember Mam telling us about Peggy Lawlor living on the Camp and the fact that she had a son, Cormac, and a daughter, her daughter died in a cot death, cannot figure out how she never mentioned Mrs. Collins having a son in the priesthood if it is him.
I will make it my business to find out if Mrs. Collins was his mother should I run into him again.
Hope all is well with you.
Rose.

Thanks for that Billy, must be him, funny I never knew that Mrs. Collins had a son a priest, as I already said unusual not to have the elders of the day doing a little boasting about a man of the cloth from the community.
Hope all is well with you.
Rose.

Hello Andrew Regan! Looking through your list of names, I think I knew a Matt Kelly who worked in the tin town workshop, and I also knew a Bob Devine, I seem to remember him at some time being a barber in Plunkett barracks, where we often shared a bottle of Guinness while he cut hair, this was during the fiftys, maybe others may remember them?
