Hi Rose As far as the grey matter allows some of the residents used the sheds as fuel storage as the years went by. but the smell out of them whenever they were open was something awful. I dont think that they were that bad to put soldiers into them for funigation, but they had the Isolation wards on the edge of the Big Hospital the far side of the Mourge for that. BYE FOR NOW. JOHNNY.

Re: mcdonagh tce. Hi Kathyo, ref the allotments, as far as the grey matter will allow I cannot recall there ever being any allotments or plots as they were commonly called in McDonagh but I will list out the areas that were available for the growing of various vegetables etc in the Camp, Pearse- at the rear of the revolver range to about 2oo yards of theold vickers range, owen roe rd houses had good back gardens and were sowed with veg, south road at the rear of the BFW yard, the orchard in front of the Cinema, Clarke tce, on both sides of the road behind the bakery, all the houses along oHiggins road, beside the power station, houses beside the old school across from the gym nil, OHiggins tce rear gardens, field beside Connoly officers mess was also used for plots as was each Officers mess gardens, the swinging boats the 2 houses in front of the water works, as well as most of the Officers houses within the Camp. so you admit to borrowing items from some of these, dont worry i borrowed from them all, but all credit to the parents who worked these allotments they were blessed with Green fingers and they were a credit to them, some hairy scarey tales from the fruit farm, thats for further treads. bye for now I probably left out a few places but some one out on the forum will be able to enlighten us as to the locations, bye Johnny Kelly

Hi Kaytho and Johnny,
There were no plots in McDonagh, but my Dad had one on the dental hut road, beside Col. Tommy O'Donnells house. We used to beg to go down with him, but would get fed up after a while and head up home. He grew veg and spuds, rhubard, John Fogarty, Jim Egan and Tom Coyle and I think Dan Ahearn had the plots around.
So that was'nt leaving the farming to the Pearse lads, know for sure that certain Pearse lads when sent to O'Donnells for veg by their mother, would stop off at the plots and get the cabbage there and keep the half crown for themselves, I know this to be true because their Dad told me he also told me about a case of mistaken identity over said incident which caused great discomfort to the poor unfortunates father who was blamed in the wrong and great annoyance and amusement to the father of the culprit.
Rose.

Never did sow any plots in the camp but I do think I reaped a bit of what others sowed yum yum, no shame maybe a mea culpa.
