Hi Rose Yes they did have long Curly Hair mostly woven into Ringlets, and fine looking girls they were to, just a thought before I retire to Dreamland, wasn't Peter Mc Givney Sgt, Mc Dermott Barracks of Cowboy Book fame a relation of yours? Night Rose keep safe and may you always remain a true and healthy Shadower and a good friend! "He says as he slinks off to bed. JoeyK

Yeah Joey,
Peter real name John was a first cousin of Dad's, he was reared by Dad's Mam as his Mam died while quite young. He also went by Whiskey because he never touched spirits, but made up for it with Guinness, he was really good to myself and Mon, you only had to say is'nt that lovely John and it was yours and make no mistake we admired a lot of stuff in Powells window while in his Company. He passed away about ten years ago in Cavan.
Good night friend.
Rose.

HI Andy and Joey,
Tommy McGivney who lived in the Grey Homes would have been a first cousin to Whiskey, Whiskey's dad Francie soldiered all his working life, he was stationed in Kilkenny when his wife died, and then was transferred to Athlone to be nearer home (Cavan) and his children who were unfortunately sent to the Industrial Schools, due to their Dad being in the Army and always on the move, but did not spend all of their childhood's there, they were rescuded by their Aunts, Whiskey's Dad retired to Kingscourt, Co. Cavan where Whiskey is buried and spent his last years, Dad's other uncle Patrick also soldiered and like Francie was all over the place, must check with my cousin Vincent who since the death of his mother has been appointed custodian of the past generations, two of Dad's brothers also soldiered one Dublin and one in the Camp, Frank and John.
Dad left Cavan at seventeen and came to the Camp, Whiskey followed, lied about his age, he was sixteen, they found out, he had to go home, but obviously came back again.
Rose.

Hi Rose Thanks for confirming about Peter Mc Givney, I soldiered with him for over 15 years, a great character, and I do remember him buying you and Monica the Lemonade and Crisps in Mc Dermott Mess. He was a great one for reading the Cowboy Books, and yes he did like the little Jemmy Dog as he called them. I see Johnny has come in on the back end of things again, wonder does he ever read the previous pages, I suppose I have kissed my Shadowers keyring goodbye now! Anyway keep safe. I passed the houses in question in the Hospital Grounds today and they both seem to be occupied at present. Cheers and good luck, JoeyK

Hi Geraldine,
Yes Corrigans lived there he was a Capt, she was a sister of Emily Canavan who used to live in the house on the hill across from Maginns, she used to sell Avon door to door, they had three children, Robert, Rena and Vicky. I used to babysit for them, remember one night going off to bed after locking up to strange noises downstairs, when I came down for a look there were four sheep in the hall, I had'nt even closed the front door no mind locked it, there is a long walk from the front gate to the frontdoor, a bit creepy in the sittingroom on your own at fifteen. A fine house inside plenty of room and the back garden is quite big too.
Rose.
