Hi Tom In answer to your query re Peter Hickey having lived in No 3 Mc Dermott Barracks, Peter was a 3* Pte in the Band before he got his appointment as Sacristan, it was very common in the Camp that those employed in the Curragh were allowed to keep Married Quarters, it made good logic, look at all the Typists etc that lived in K Lines, along with the Range Wardens and other essential civilian employees in the Camp. Hi Tommy Well done on all your hard work what an achievement its nice to know the exact date that i moved into my house No 27 MC Donagh i moved in on the 15/5/85 no date of when i moved out could it have been late 85 because i don't see any dates after the 18/8/85 or is that as far as the records went up to.? Also looking at some of the dates one of the shortest stays from one person was just under 3 months moved in on the 12/8/80 moved out 10/11/80 and two days later 12/11/80 someone new moved in no hanging about back then. Have not posted in a while so sorry for waffling on. Looking at the pearse side i see one name L. Parminter who lived at canteen managers house 1/12/77 wonder if its our Louis maybe he will let us know when he posts. I also see the dates finish at 85 were all the houses finished been lived in after that year. Tommy well done again would be lovely to see the rest of the curragh houses [fingers crossed]in saying that i wont tell you how long it took me to type this piece using two fingers so give yourself a pat on the back. Geraldine.
Looking at the dates of when the houses stopped being occupied, gives an idea of when the policy for boarding up, and eventual destruction became a reality,

Hi Joey, Would like to see the official documentation to back your statement that Pearse ended at the left hand side of Cahills Hill, knowing you, you will probably have said documentation, seven days in a cot in the Families does not a Pearse resident make. Your right I lived in my respective barracks thereafter, as when I was in the Families in Pearse??? I was very dependent on others, could not see where I was going, was on a liquid diet as I could not take solids and needed someone to feed the liquid diet to me, could not walk or talk, break wind without help, it was so bad I had to wear nappies, I could not keep my head from falling off my shoulders without someone supporting it, but when they wrapped me in the little pink blanket and brought me to MCDONAGH as the months passed I came on leaps and bounds, within two years I could walk, talk, eat solid food, my sight was perfect, my head was'nt lolling around my shoulders anymore and I was getting more and more independent every day and was only wearing nappies at night, I was so glad to leave Pearse? living in McDonagh MQRS was the best thing that ever happened to me. Don't quote me but I think all Shadowers born in the Families were in the same sorrowful state as myself until they were wrapped in their little blankies and brought home to live in their respective barracks. Its said that even the official Pearse residents suffered the same fate. Cheers, Rose. MCDONAGH MAGIC UP MCDONAGH......................................... .

I have a feeling that I am being sucked into a vortex McDonagh / Pearce.
But your descriptive powers as seeing through the eyes of a baby could swing the argument that week left a bit to be desired and then to be beaten and pumelled oooooh ,

P S Joey, To add insult to injury when I spent that week in the Families in Pearse??? they were constantly beating me up, it started with slapping the arse off me, my first day there that happened, then every three or four hours they were slapping the back off me. I will have to leave this sorry subject alone for now and see if I can come to terms with the way I was treated in Pearse? Rose. Sob Up McDonagh Sob Sob.

Jaysus Andy,
As long as Kelly acknowledges the Families is on neutral ground.
The fact that being born in Pearse??? was not a pleasant experience and appreciates that I would like to put all of that behind me now, and of course drops all referalls to me being from Pearse in future posts and accepts that I am McDonagh through and through there will be no need for pistols at dawn.
Like yourself I am eagerly awaiting his response.
Rose.

Hi TommyS, well done on a brilliant piece of work plenty of nostalgia for us Curragh folk we might not have known a lot of them but the thing about the Curragh residents we all knew our neighbours and we would all have went to the same school. I can't wait till you cross over Biddys hill and up to Connolly and of course O'Higgins Tce. Bye for now, Anne.
