Hi I wonder if anyone could help. My wifes grandad Thomas Gaffney and his elder brother Joseph Gaffney were in the army at Curraugh camp up until 1919. Was there a boxing club at that time, as my wife and i remember seeing a photo of Thomas standing in a boxing pose, and also had a little silver cup with his name on it. I wonder if anyone has any information at all. It would certainly make my wife a happy lady if anyone could help i would be very grateful.
Thanks Stars

Hi Andy I don't think so, as spelling is gaffney and not gaffeney but thanks anyway. I will still check it out.

Hi Stars,
The point Johnny made, if you have an army number for either member you can get a record of their complete military career, movements,Marital status, children etc but those records will be in England not Ireland, As for the boxing there has always been tournaments in the forces inter force and outside
As for the Curragh boxing goes back eons

Stars,
On the subject of spelling, back then it was only as good as the person writing it down, illiteracy was a big thing.
You might have to use variants of the name and eliminate as you go
Regards Andy
