In October 1973 the 25th Inf Gp was on peacekeeping duties in Cyprus (UNFICYP). However with the outbreak of fighting between Egypt and Israel in the Yom Kippur War brought about a new United Nations Security Council Resolution (339), this called for a cease fire and a new United Nations Force to be dispatched to the region. UN troops were moved from UNFICYP to UNEF II. The following photograph was sent to me by Pat Mulcahy. The photograph shows the Curragh Platoon which was part of the 25th Inf Gp Front Row L to R:Nicky(? mickey) Noctor, Joe Kelly, Peter Cox (rip), Lt Col P Allen, Lt Byrne,Comdt , Sean Murphy, Pinto Moore, Sean Breen(rip) Middle L to R: ? Delaney, ?, ??, Chico Tobin, Murphy brother 1, Tpr Coughlan, , Duke OConnel & . Back Lto R: Sean Tobin, Boots Holligan, , Christy Hughes, Pat Mulcahy, Murphy brother 2, Scoup OBrien, Pte Anderson, Mich Lenanne. the photo is very contrasty, names are what i can remember, Regards Pat Mulcahy Matt

Matt, A Coy went from Cyprus, B Coy formed up in Ireland and were sent to Cairo in I think less than a week which I would recommend as the only way to go overseas. We spent some time in Cairo before moving to the far side of the canal. The top photo shows the complete 6th Pl. (including the Coy Cmdr and Gp Cmdr) and as Walter Tobin has pointed out on another forum the colour photo is missing Pinto Moore and was taken on Christmas day 1973. Pat

Johnny, I made a typo on the names on the B&W photo, that should be Tony Breen (not Sean) he was GTD as were Peter Cox and Mick Lenane. Sean Murphy was 3rd Bn. Wally Tobin and John Coughlan were Cav, Duke O Connell and Chico Tobin were Camp Hq. I think R Holligan C Hughes and J Mc Namee were S&T, John Anderson was our cook, not sure of his unit. I am not sure of the rest, Wally Tobin may know. I was Depot Sigs. Pat

Johnny, not sure of his name I think he might have been out of Kildare Bks. I will ask Wally Tobin, he is on facebook and see if he remembers. Glad Tony's son got to see them, only wish all the photos laying around in attics and suitcases were copied and put up , they are a treasure for the future. Pat.
