I was wondering how many of the barracks still have housing. I noticed some new houses [to me]on my way to Brownstown and also I have not come across any news from Pearse Bks on the site, is it still there?

Hi Willie,
Pearse I think the middle block has already been knocked the block on the bottom road is ready for the bulldozer if it has'nt already been demolished, the block on our road is still standing and a lot if not nearly all of the houses are occupied, they each have two houses made into one and all have a bathroom. McDonagh as you know is gone, the verandah houses in McDermott are gone, but the white houses in McDermott the same design as McDonagh are still standing, Marie and Eddie Cramer still living there. Clarke is gone Warrant Officers still standing and occupied. Ceannt is gone, Connolly I am nearly certain is gone as is Plunkett, O'Higggins Tce what we used to call the new houses is still standing and occupied. There are quite a few of the houses standing on their own ground still standing. The houses your referring to on the way to Brownstown are called Orchard Park, there were two fases of these built in the early 70's and 80's. The army are now selling these to the occupiers. The plan is to have no married quarters within the confines of the Camp at all, though as far as I am aware they have to have married quarters.
Rose.

In the 60's our address was not McDonagh Tce it was:
5 A Block, McDonagh Married Quarters, Curragh Camp.
Each Block was number one to whatever but you had A B and C Block.

Thanks for that Rose, its sad in a way how things have changed. What happens then to people who have lived in Qrts and "have" to move, or finnish their service are they rehoused in civvy street?

Hi Tommy, I must admit that comes as a bit of a shock, as the man says "you are only a number"
