The following article was sent to me by Caroline Shelton. It gives an account of her father Jim Smiths holiday to the Curragh Camp to visit his father Cpl. Sidney Smith in 1916. However due to unforeseen circumstances Jim was unable to return home and lived on the Curragh for a further five years, leaving in 1921. This is a great article and gives a insight into life on the Curragh at that time. Read the article here: www.curragh.info/articles/smith.htmMatt

Caroline Shelton contacted me today after almost four years and was delighted to tell me that her Father Jim Smith is still alive and well at the young age of 103 !!! I still find it amazing that there is somebody still alive from the period of The Curragh History pre-1922. If you haven't read Jim's memoirs from his time as a resident of The Curragh Camp click here: www.curragh.info/articles/smith.htm Matt

Just to let you know that we celebrated Dad's 104th birthday last month. The memories were originally written down for the grandchildren so that a bit of family history was not lost, but it is really nice that they have reached a wider audience through your website. All the very best to everyone on the Curragh.

Hi Caroline
Great to hear from you and that your Father Jim celebrated his Birthday last month. I was only talking about your Dad last week and was telling a friend about the great article written from his memories of The Curragh Camp. It is truly a great age and I do on behalf of the Curragh people far and wide wish him all the best.
