The following pictures were given to me by my brother Donal McNamara. He was on duty in Plunkett Guardroom the night Sam Maguire stayed for safe keeping. Why was the Sam Maguire kept in the Curragh? Out of curiousity who won it that year?

Hi Donal I am curious also as to why the cup was in the Curragh, ( and in very safe hand's at that), asked a few people but no answere's yet, maybe you can remember?

Sorry Aisling for not getting back to you sooner, but since teresap brought the thread back to life I suppose I better explain how the Sam Maguire Cup was in Plunkett guard room. There was an officer from Plunkett called Larry Coughlan who was heavily involved with the Offaly GAA County Board. Offaly won the foothball that year and it was doing the rounds and raising money for the GAA and was placed in the guard room for safe keeping at night.
