Hi, I have just joined the Forum to ask a question. Apologies if this has been asked before. I have relatives John Collins and Rebecca Dennehy who married in Curragh Camp on 11/1/1874. The record i have is just a scribbled note with signatures of two witnesses underneath it. John as i understand was in the 27th Iniskillings Regiment of Foot. Army number 497, joining in 1858 until 1877. What i would like to know is was there a more formal record of this marriage and would it have been in the form of usual marriages at that time giving occupations, addresses and parents names. If so where would i find it? Many thanks for any info or details on this regiment in relation to being at the Camp.

yes I have been googling and most records give you info on the regiment. I have got as far as looking online at register at National library of Ireland, catholic marriages and it is just a scribbled line regarding the marriage. It would seem to me that there should have been a more formal register taken which they would have signed and more details given but cannot seem to find anything. If anyone has any more answers would be grateful. Thanks

Hi Debbie Most Marriages are kept on a Church Register Have you tried the GRO for an official Certificate Check with General REcords Office in Dublin or a local one if you are near with the information that you have. The Marriage in the Curragh was it Catholic or Church of Ireland?

Thanks Andy. Good to know that there should be a record. I tried the gro in England initially as the family settled in London. I think I have looked in the past at Irish marriages but I was looking in Kerry where Rebecca Deenehy was from. Now I know the marriage was at the camp in Kildare I will look again. It would have been a Catholic marriage.
Thanks
Debbie

Debbie, contact the GROs in Dublin with the info you have, If there is a record there then you can purchase it if you want and your are half way to solving things. Also have you tried KEW I dont know what heading it would come under but a phone call should put you in the right department. They might have his military records which might include nok, wills, movements etc Best of luck these brick walls can be a right pain. Andy
