Hi All The following two photographs were sent to me by Thomas Jones' The first photograph shows a march past at the memorial garden Plunkett Bks. The Trooper carrying the pennant is my late father Ex Sgt John Jones. Standing to his left is Cpl Gleeson, Behind him is Joey Cunningham, next I know the face but forget the name, John (Basher) Behan is next, behind is Wally Tobin, Micky Behan and the half man could be Joe Wright. The only other person I can ID is the guy on the far side of the tank standing between soldier with beret and Glengarry. It looks very like the late Dick Drohan. The second photograph is of the Armd Car Group in Cyprus. Taken about 1970-71. Ex Sgt John Jones is the left hand man in the rear rankThanks to Thomas Jones for sharing these photographs with us. Matt

Matt, The first photograph would appear to be the Stand Down Parade(retirement) for the late Comdt. Dennis Quinn formerly of K-Lines (Pearse Park), Newbridge and Kildare. Billy Hyland

Hi Billy
Thanks for that update. I was looking at the photograph again and the Trooper in the center of the front row looks like recently retired BQMS Austin Clarke from Newbridge. Maybe sombody else can confirm this ??
Thanks again

Hi Matt Reference the picture, I can assure you that it is Austin Clarke, and on his right is a very young Basher Behan, over Basher's right shoulder Wally Tobin. On the left side of the Photo, Danny Flood, and the civilian behind him is Dick Drohan, the rest would be unknown to me, still not bad for a blind Old Coot like myself. Regards JoeyK

Re: Old Obstacle Course Photos Hi Matt I would hazard a guess that the photo was taken in the 50's as the little tin hut was not in place in the late 50's, notice none of the soldiers are wearing watches goes to show that they were having the TIME of their lives. bye for now Johnny

Hi Matt, I think I served with most of the people in the picture! but I cant help naming any of them, I played poker many times with Peter Quinn his nick name was "Chinky Quinn" I dont know if he new that? a lot of the lads had nick names! Cpl Tennyson was my instructor on my driving course, I left before the course ended, I hope somebody can name some more of the lads, it would help my memory a lot my C/o Comdt, Charlie Houston wasnt best pleased I left during a driving course, Ex Tpr Kelly,, Ex1st Armd Sqdn ,, 53/54/55
