I'm trying to find info on my uncle William Henry Hughes 808556 A coy 35th inf batt. Date of birth: 3 June 1940 Home address: Lower Water Street, Longford Also, 16 Assumption Road, Athlone Date of enlistment: 26 January 1959 Date of discharge: 30 October 1962 Total service: 4 years, 170 days Medals and awards: UN Congo Medal (awarded November 1962)
Unfortunately I have no photo's to go into the plaque I'm putting together with his new citations I received as his next of kin. I seen a service card of one of the men in A coy and it had a photograph attached. Is there any way I could get a copy of my uncles service card with photo attached? Was Jadotville his only tour?
Thanks in Advance Mark

Hi, mhughes, you mention your uncles UN Congo Medal, no mention of UN Peacekeeping Medal. If you are his Next of Kin and can prove it you can Apply for it, also his Military records if you do not have them, again re the service card , try military archives in Cathal Brugha, Info can be got on the Defence Forces Site. Best of luck with your search, hope some of this reply is useful. Andy

Hi M Hughes, as you already have a newspaper photo of your uncle you might be able to get a copy from the NLI of Ireland but you will have to pay for them.
Regards Ned

The info in my first post is all I got in a reply from military archives. They never mentioned a UN Peacekeeping medal. I'll probably up in the Curragh paying respects to A coy on the 22nd of this month, I'll drop into archives and see what I can get from them. Thanks for your reply Andy.

Hi , if you go on the Defence Forces site you will be able to email them with your Queries, or you can contact them in Newbridge. Ned spot on re newspaper clipping They possibly assumed you knew about UN Peackeeper's Medal, if you have not got his mil records get them as well you would be surprised what they might contain. Again Best of luck Andy
