I will wear the red poppy on remembrance Sunday.
I will wear it to honour The Irishmen who gave their lives in both wars. I will also think of those Irish Soldiers who gave their lives for the cause of peace ,serving for the United Nations.
There seems to be a feeling of betrayal in some quarters in Ireland re the wearing of the Red Poppy.
I shall look forward to your feed back.
I think they need to move forward and give peace a chance. Ant

Hi Tony,
I have no problem with Irishmen or women wearing the Poppy, or any other nationality either.
Saying that there is the anti lobby and they to are entitled to their views and convictions on the subject.
Life is a pro and con on all or most subject and I feel my opinion only that the two will never agree.
You are entitled to your belief re wearing the Poppy, so wear it well, wear it with pride if that is how you feel.

Hi Tony,
Again my own opinion, once the media latch on to something they cannot let go until they have sucked it dry.
Not just McGregor but other sports people also have being castigated.

Hi all re the wearing of the Poppy. people are misguided by the symbol of the poppy. as it is designed for a charity and to remember ALL whom died in All wars. and most of us have been touched by a loss of some either family or neighbour or friend. during some conflict or other. it is the persons own choice to wear or not to wear the Poppy. next year being the 100th year since the Rising are we to be frowned upon if one chooses to wear an Easter lily to remember the Fallen during the rising or as has been said before lets move on. some can but some cannot, my thoughts are let all have the choice to do what one thinks is right at this time. bye for now Johnny

Hi Johnny. I would be proud to wear the easter Lilly as 1916 is part of our history.
I agreed with what you say the choice is for to choose for what you think is right.

I have a lovely lapel pin with a Shamrock surrounded by the Poppy, I will gladly wear it, to remember all the Irishmen who fought in the great War, and indeed for all who lost their lives in the same war. After all they were all soldiers. Regards JK

I am of the James McClean school of thought as regards the wearing of the Poppy. I have worn it years ago in Australia in support of the R.S.L. But the Poppy Day appeal is for funds to help support serving and former members of the British Forces. James McClean and I come from the same place that was on the receiving end of terrible actions by these forces not so long ago, not long enough to forget so that is one reason we choose not to subscribe to an appeal to help those that made life a hell for friends and family. So, I'm one Irishman that won't be wearing the poppy. Charlie004

Goodman Charlie,
Stand by your principles, you say it as you see it but do not object to the viewpoint of others other's.
Me it is all the one to me whether it is worn or not, to each individual do what you feel is right, not what the Media states.

Hi Charlie 004. I fully understand where you are coming from and know the sufferings inflicted upon us in the past under the British Rule. That was finished 83 years ago, excluding the wrongs done in the 60s under the same regime. However I am able to put all that behind me and go forward. Do not forget, if the many Irishmen who served the British Forces in 1914/18 had not done so, most of their families back home would have starved. Democratically we are all entitled to our opinions and I for one, can look forward to a better relationship with the old foe, except on the Soccer Field or Rugby Pitch or any sport that involves the Old Foe. Glasnot. Regards Kellquinn

Kellquinn, Other than the fact that British Rule hasn't ended for all of us for 83years and there is still a lot of hurt and suffering in people I meet from day to day, most of us are happy that the bad days are behind us and are enjoying our days of peace. I know only too well about Irishmen in the British force as I have had a few family members serve in them including in both World Wars. And sure most if not all of us have English blood some where in the family tree. I agree with you on the sporting front but while The Republic next year will celebrate 100 years of the start of the final struggle to rid themselves from the English, the English will bombard us with 50th anniversary of them winning The world Cup. Doesn't bare thinking about, does it. Sometimes they are hard to like. Charlie004.

Hi All. We love to see them get beat on the sports field Rugby Footy Horse racing cheltenham. I even got the Grand sons cheering on the boys in green. When i came here in the 60s i remember No Blacks No Irish and no dogs. Now they leave us alone as they got other fish to fry. I think this better we all live in peace . Ant

Hi Charlie Yes England did win the World Cup in 66, that to is in the long distance past, of course they will milk it as long as they can. Where was their Rugby team this year? did our little nation not stand up to be counted along with Scotland, who in my opinion were robbed. Look at Cheltenham, Ascot and Aintree to name but a few of our racing successes. Not to digress from the main topic. Yes they can crow about 66 and they are entitled to do so having won it, cannot see Ireland doing so, as of yet. To all soldiers past and present and of all nationalities. "Peace".
