I lived in the Curragh in Militia Terrace when I was about 2, then we would go back for the holidays to the next door neighbours, Mr and Mrs O Carroll and their 7 or 8 sons......I now live in the US and was wondering is anything still there of these old houses?
My father was C/S Joseph Broderick, he was quite a swimmer and a billiard player. When I go home I have a lovely picture of him on a team of about 6 taken in the swimming area, after they had won some competition. I will not be home until June but will try and post or send on line.
My father was stationed at the Curragh in and around the 40's or late 30's, then he was transferred up to Dublin and we lived in McKee Park.
His brother George was also a swimming instructor.

In this Article, I have inadvertantly stated that Miss Kennedy worked in Miss Purtell's Shop. She had in fact her own Drapery Shop just up from Powell's Shop. Apologies .

Delightful piece by Michael. My Dad (Sgt. Mick O'Leary) and I were founder members. We left after year, when my Dad was transferred to Kilkenny. The P.P. at the time, Fr. Boylan, was also an enthusiastic promoter the choir. Michael, are you the same Michael Kelly who lived in Block C , Mc.Donagh Married Qtrs., overlooking the ball alley?

Hello Raymond,
How are you ? Nice to hear from you again . I hope that you have been keeping well, and also that life generally has been both good and kind to both you and all the Family down through the years . I remember you well,. And as Johnny rightly pointed out - Martin Kelly lived in the middle Block in McDonagh . I see him occasionally. And you are spot-on, as we lived in No.1 C Block in McDonagh . We lived there from 1956 to November 1959. And our neighbours at that time were The Conways, Drury's, Clarke, Brennans, Harpurs, O'Neills, Ivers, and the Heffernans . Previous to that we lived in Ceannt in 5D Block . It was the middle Block. And if my memory serves me right, you lived in the the End-House in the back Block around that time also. And did you have a Sister named - Renee ? I joined the Army Apprentice School in Naas in 1962 with John Joe Doyle and Andy Hayes . I served in the Defence Forces for 40 Years , and for another 10 years in the Main Transport Technical Stores as a Civilian Clerk. And I finally Retired in October 2012 . I remember our time in the Choir very well. It was a great grounding and education for us all . So how are you keeping ?
Nice to hear from you again Raymond . Take care .
Fond regards,
Michael

Hi Raymond,
I lived in McDonagh too. Remember your family well and when you all left for Kilkenny. It seemed very far away then! Other families who lived in McDonagh then were Dillons(Edward), Duhigs, Dolans, Phillips, Clarkes, Smiths,Ambrose, Cowleys, Gormans & McKearneys.
Welcome to the forum,
Barbara

Michael, Wonderful memories: brought back so many names I'd forgotten, and revived a raft of delightful memories. Sad to read the names of our contemporaries who have died. I remember you from the choir , as well as your time in Ceannt and McDonagh. The older I get, the more I realize how privileged we were to grow up in the Curragh. Hope that you and JJ (Curran) have more stories to tell. Ray O' Leary. Proud ex-Curragh resident, Chicago.
