Hi Tom & Anthony I came across Cavalry Corps Compendium from a few years back and it mentions a 801134 Cpl. W Hetherington Depot. Cav from Mountrath, Co Laois. I take it that that is the same man ? Matt

Hi Matt,
Yes thats the same Guy, I thought he was a serving member in the Curragh and discovered that he moved when I asked why he was not mentioned on the Curragh Roll outside the church.

Hi Matt. I remember Jim Donnelly very well and we were in the same billet at the 1st armour Sqn in Plunkett Bks. Jim is the Trooper in your photo on Curragh History loading the armour and Tom Kelly is the Trooper just behind him. Jim Donnellys best friend was Aidan Dunne. The soldiers in the billet at that time were as follows. Jim Donnelly your God Father. Aidan Dunne his best friend. Tommy Watson from Kilkenny. Dixie Brown The boxer. Tony Mcglynn From Nass also got best soldier in our Platoon in Mc Donagh in 61. Tommy Behan from Nass. Michael Chapman Roscommon. Kevin Barry Wexford. William Cullintan Wexford. Eddie Clements whom i later met in London. The block we were in was just opposite Sands Soldiers Home. The armour cars were store under that block .One of the armour cars went to the Congo and one was used in making the film Shake Hands with The Devil Starring James Cagney and released in 1959. I hope you have seen this film i think it was banned for a time over here. Good Luck Anthony.

Hi Matt. The photo of the Tanks on the Curragh History .I hope im right the third Trooper from the left is Willy Fitzpatrick and he has got his 303 sloped and his colt 45 holstered and tied to his leg. Willy was orderly-for many years to Commandant O Shea who was Adjutant at Plunkett Bks. I met him at a petrol station near the Curragh when i was on holidays about 15yrs ago. He had served over 21yrs and also worked for the board of works in latter yrs Cheerio Anthony.
