Hi All The purpose of the Curragh Historical Photographs thread is to bring together all the photographs into one convenient area, but yet in different folders for easy access and searching for specific topics. I will provide links to the different folders, whereby you can open the link and view the photographs in the folder. Then if you click on a photograph and this will in turn open in a slideshow. Once the slideshow is open you will notice on the top left hand side there is a link called Run Slideshow. This will run the slideshow for you and if you want to look at a photograph a little longer just press Pause Slideshow. I hope this new feature will encourage other people to get out the old photographs and send them to me by e-mail to matt@curragh.info and I can have them displayed here in this vital historical section. Photograph by John J Curran "The challenge of history is to recover the past and introduce it to the present" What better way to show the long history of The Curragh than using photographs. Matt

There are records on Ancestry.com that my ancestor, John Morley, born about 1856 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England was a deserter in the English army at Curragh, Kildare Ireland on 23 December 1873. What is the penalty for a deserter in 1873. I can find no future records for John. He was only 17 years old. It was a cold and snowy time of year for Kildare.
