Hi Matt. I would just like to thank you for helping make contact through this wonderful site that you set up. I have just had an e-mail from George Jefferies and he is from Wexford. He has mention two chaps that joined up the same time as me from Kilmore quay. The two men that he mentioned were also in the same billet with me in the1st Armour Sqdn. We also went to the Congo together with the 37th Batt. I will be emailing him tomorrow and i hope you can get some photos for the site from this contact.i had onlyone snap from the Congo and searched the house and was unable to find it. Good luck Anthony.

Hi Anthony
That is good news and nice to hear. This is what I hoped the site and forum would do, bring old friends and comrades who have passed through the Curragh over the years into contact. Not only army friends, but all the families who have passed through the camp. It is good to see and read when people who haven’t seen or heard from each other over decades making contact on this forum.
All the best
Matt

Hi Matt:
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Thanks to you or one of the guests for giving Damien Wall my email address. We were on the Curragh Command Boxing Team in the late 70s. The Command team won the all-army competition 3 years in a row. At the time, you couldn’t compete after three consecutive wins over three years. I don’t know what it’s like today. We had a great bunch of guys on the team and there was a great feeling of camaraderie boxing in England and Wales, we beat the other Commands, Navy and Air Corps and Garda team at the National Stadium. We haven’t seen each other in over 30 years. We spoke on the phone at Christmas and hopefully Damien and his family will visit us here in New York.
Thanks again Matt for opening the past and embellishing what’s important to us.
Brendan

I think the MP with the submachine gun was named Mullery You are totally incorrect. The MP with the Gustav SMG is Michael J. Power, a Tipperary man now residing in Thurles. limerick

I trained in Mac Donagh Bks in the mid-sixties and eventually served in the MP for eight years in the Glasshouse, 1972 to 1980. Though I never lived on the Curragh, I spent more time there than many residents, between Recruit training, Firemans Course, Rangers, MP, MP Standard, O/Room Sgts course, Int/Ops, and pre Overseas Training. I must say that I always felt welcome in the Curragh and surrounding Towns, either in uniform or in civvies. I say this because in many Towns around Ireland where I have been stationed in over 30 years Service, the soldier was not always so welcome. I found Curragh people to the most friendly and welcoming. Now that 've retired I would like to say thanks to all of you. Jim

Hi Jim, See you 'on-line' same time as me which is unusual as I am on the other side of the world waiting for news of the next incoming typhoon! Do you remember me from the 'Glass House" regards Louis

Sure do old Pal. You're a long way from Alpha an' the New Wall, let alone Hickory Lane out there! I left the PAs in 1980 and went to the Inf as a Sgt until I retired altogether in the mid '90s. As I said on another Thread, the old Curragh, for all its faults was home from home for me and a lot of others down the years. It feels like I grew up there and spent more time there than some locals! Great to hear from you Louis. I met a lot of the others a few years ago at a re-union up in Mc Dermott. I've no contact at all now with the Army, 'cept for the Pension cheque !

Did most of my service in Clancy Bks, Dublin. But then the powers that be decided it would be a good idea to sell the place. I was posted to the Curragh and served from end 2001 to July 2007 in the Ordnance School, CSSC. Matt, I remember you from the Admin School when I did my ECDL course there and also later when I had to do that new system for Orderly Rooms so that I could go on the Senior NCO's Course.
Thanks for everything and thanks for a great site.
