Hi All The following photographs show troops of the 33rd Battalion in the Curragh Camp prior to travelling to the Congo in August 1960. A Battalion which was to loose twelve of its personnel in action, including the famous Niemba Ambush on the 8th November 1960. Please remember those Killed in Action with the 33rd Bn. RIP Matt

Hi Matt, great pictures of a nostalgic era can't say I recognise any personnel except Sr Bella Kilmartin giving the innoculations to the troops she was a dear friend to our parents. Im sure someone will come up with lots of names. Anne.

Great Photos from the past Matt.
Those who lost their lives will not be forgotten.
And Mr Lemmas I wonder did he for see the dynasty he was to spawn in regards to Irish Politics.
Also would I be right in stating that the Flag was created by the ladies of the Curragh and presented to the Bn prior to their departure, I have a memory of at least one such Flag being presented.
Andy

Anyone recognise the young chap in short trousers standing beside the troops. Rose. Hi Rose I assume this photograph is the one you are talking about. He looks about 9 or maybe 10 years of age, I would guess. That would make him about 60 or 61 years of age now. Perhaps Joey or Johnny Kelly may know him. Matt

Hi Anne,
Your right too that is Paddy Creaton, had many a laugh with Paddy when we lived in Tara House in Newbridge, it belonged to Mick Leahy Undertaker, Paddy used to give him a hand, every morning when he came up the lane, he would greet me with Good Mornin young Smith.
