Hi Rose One small correction Bertie Harris. We lived beside Harris's in O'Higgins Tce. They then moved to Kilcullen, sadly Bertie passed away about 5 Years ago. He was a nice man. Matt Captain Mellory was in charge of the band late sixties early seventies, some of the sirnames of band members of the time can't remember all the christian names: Pendergast George Mullins Gerry Colman Tommy Byrne? O'Brien Jet Kennedy Declan Valentine ? Murphy Mowler Sheridan Ray Lydon PJ O'Donnell Jimmy Quirke Johnny Tyrell Tommy Tyrell Junior Fitzharris Bertie Staunton? Anyone else out there remember the rest?

Hi, Remember William Valentine also known as Valo, Also remember Dixie Murphy (RIP). My dad Michael (Mouler) Murphy (RIP) Did you know the band played in a war film called The Blue Max. George Peppard(the A team) and ursula Andreas starred. Some of the band members were recognisable wearing black moustashes.

Hi Liz
That brings me back to the early 1970’s when I lived next door to Brian Harris. His Father was in the Curragh Band and played a part in the German Band in The Blue Max. But Brian was the envy of all the lads on O’Higgins Tce as his Father had “Re-Located” a German soldier’s helmet from the wardrobe on the film set. The Helmet was his prize possession .

Hi Matt,
Sorry to hear about Bertie Harris. I went to school with His son Bobby. Like father like son - great people.
As for the German Helmet. We found one in our attic in Ceannt. I was baffled at first, then I discovered that the Irish Army wore a replica of the German M16 Helmet before, during and after the Second WW. Ironically, the army had a contract with British Vickers to make the helmet.

Hi Liz or Matt. Was it the Army Band you were talking about in the above posts? If so have you ever heard of Pat Tracey he was in the Army Band in the 60s. His Father was transferred to Wexford from Dublin in the late 50s were he was Barrack QM. He later worked in Guinness's Brewery in Park Royal he passed away in the 90s RIP.Many of the the new recruits from Wexford will have signed on by this man from 50s to the 70s. His Son Pat later played around the Irish Dance halls in London as i met him when he played in The Garryowen in Hammersmith. Pat later went to America.
Cheers Anthony.

It was Sgt Bertie Harris (not Fitzharris) I think it was Captain Mellerick Hi Guest You are correct it was Bertie Harris, he lived next door to me in number 8 O’Higgins Terrace. A nice man and a great family. They moved to Kilcullen in the mid 1970’s and after he retired from the Army Band he worked in the Calvary Workshops in the technical stores issuing and receiving parts for all the various armoured cars. I was last talking to him pre-2000 when the Y2K or millennium bug was suppose to strike and I was working in the Curragh Camp IT section. Anyhow I was down with him updating his computer and had a good chat with him and of course a welcome cup of tea. He was a great family friend to the McNamara’s and passed away a few years later. Matt

Hello Mr. Lyons,
Presume you are Stephen, you won't remember me, but I remember you living at the top of A block with you very blonde hair and cheeky grin. Often wondered what happened to Johnny Quirke, I live in Newbridge too and have not bumped into him. Must keep an eye out for him in future, but probably would not recognise one another now.
Rose.

Re:Band Hall Hi all well done Joey you deserve a cigar for your observation, Tony wrong i am afraid, it was none other than Vince Hill, p/s add Tommy (dizzy)Coleman to the list of band members, Hi Rose nice to see all is well with you and your husband as the y say time is a great healer and he is not to be in a hurray to rush back to anything, yes Kaytho there was a barracks in Newbridge but it was in the Bitish times it was where the GAA Groundsare now and took in the ESB area as well as the town hall, there are old married quarters still standing and recently renovated, these are known as The Barracks, so thats where you are thinking off, anyway back to normal as the break is over and its TGIF/POETS DAY,Looking foward to sundays match between Meath and Kildare so flags out COME ON THE LILLIES, By for now Johnny
