Hi all I actually have a disc with all the rugby anthems, and I recorded Ireland's Call to my phone, it is now used as my Ringtone, my text alert is ACDC's Thunderstruck. Bit old for that now as my Rocking Days are over!, and going to change it to Amhráinn Ná Bhiánn. Might have started a trend there. Regards JKelly

'The Soldier's Song' is not the most inspiring anthem to be honest, maybe because it is in Irish and the great majority of us in the country don't know much Irish. 'Ireland's Call' is very attractive as it's in English for one, so people know what they are singing about. Also, it reaches out to those in the Northern counties of the island who don't have any particular affinity with our offical national anthem. It's not devisive as both traditions can sing it.
Our mother tongue is English, so maybe we should have an anthem in English. I didn't heard much Irish spoken on the Curragh, except for the words of command when the soldiers were marching. 'The Soldier's Song' is a touch blood and guts, a bit militaristic and that doesn't reflect the traditions of our country since it's conception. If anything we've been anti-militaristic. I don't know, maybe it's time for a change ...

Re: The National Anthem Hi all Iwas up at the 2 soccer internationals sat/tues night there were plenty of young school going children present at both matches and when the Irish National Anthem was being sung all if not most of these children were silent and when i asked of my grandaughter why they were not singing the National Anthem she replied because they dont learn it in school Ga Ga came the reply, a sad tale indeed to hear for a proud Irishman, Johnny
