Hi Paddy Just reading your post, about the time you left the Curragh, it is hard to believe that it was so long ago and yet it is only like yesterday, that we were knocking around together, a vivid memory of mine is the day after President John F Kennedy was shot, Yourself, John Mc Namee, Shanks and I were walking into Newbridge via the Green road, and discussing the outcome of the assassination, we were envisaging world war, nuclear holocaust and all that, the young minds racing with all the possible outcomes of the situation, I was thirteen and 11 months old at the time. Everytime I see anything about the late JFK my mind is cast back to that walk, and indeed with my short legs the journey seemed to have only taken about five minutes.(You three were blessed with height as you were all a couple of inches over me).

Hi all. A funny incident happened last weekend as I was in the Camp on Sunday last, as I was about to get into my car which was parked outside McDonagh Guardroom when an English registered car pulled up beside me looking for Gough House, Had to put on my quick thinking cap rapid,it turned out that the Couple inthe car had in the back seat Their Grandmother whom was home from England for the Xmas and it turned out that the Lady was born in Gough / McDonagh house 93 years ago and wanted to see the house once more. We got permission of the Guard room to show the People around, it was great to see the glint in the eyes of the old Lady as she recalled growing up in the Curragh and when I told her that I too was born under the Shadow we had a good laugh about it. And on parting She asked of Me would She be an Honouray member of the Shadowers I informed Her that once born under the Shadow always a Shadower, p.s. I informed Her that you can take the People out of the Curragh but you cannot take the Curragh out of the People at this we said Our farwells.

Well done Johnny, there are a lot of people passing through the Curragh now with the advent of the free national 1911 census now trying to trace their past but alas there is seldom any one around to ask.
